R. J. Archer
Rush James "R. J." Archer II (born August 5, 1987) is a former American football quarterback. He went undrafted in the 2010 NFL Draft, afterwards signing with the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL). High school Archer was a three-year starter at Albemarle High School. He holds the school's record for passing yards (4,568), touchdown passes (41), completions, and attempts. College Archer enrolled at The College of William & Mary and was redshirted his first year, during which time he ran the scout team. During the 2006 and 2007 seasons, he changed positions from quarterback to wide receiver, where he totaled 69 receptions. In 2008, he moved back to quarterback, but was not the full-time starter until the 2009 season when he threw for 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions. 2008 William & Mary Tribe Football Team
The 2008 William & Mary Tribe football team represented the College of William & Mary as member of South Division of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) during the 2008 NCAA Division I FCS football season. Led by Jimmye Laycock in his 29th year as head coach, William & Mary finished the season with an overall record of 7–4 and a mark of 5–3 in A-10 play, placing fourth in the South Division. They were ranked No. 20 in the final Sports Network poll, but did not receive a bid to the NCAA Division I playoffs. The 2008 season was the final one for redshirt senior cornerback and punt returner Derek Cox. Reception (American Football)
In gridiron football, a reception, also known informally as a catch, is part of a passing play in which a player in bounds successfully catches (receives) a forward pass thrown from a friendly quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. After making the catch, the receiver will then proceed to run towards the opposing end zone carrying the ball and try to score a touchdown, unless the play ends due to him being downed or forced out of bounds. Redshirt (college Sports)
Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. However, in a redshirt year, student athletes may attend classes at the college or university, practice with an athletic team, and "suit up" (wear a team uniform) for play – but they may compete in only a limited number of games (see " Use of status" section). Using this mechanism, a student athlete has at most five academic years to use the four years of eligibility, thus becoming what is termed a fifth-year senior. In American football, a completion or completed pass occurs when an eligible receiver (usually a wide receiver or a tight end) successfully catches a forward pass thrown by the quarterback without the ball touching the ground. It is one of the three possible outcomes of any pass thrown during a passing play, with the other two being incompletion and interception. A touchdown (abbreviated as TD) is a scoring play in gridiron football. Whether running, passing, returning a kickoff or punt, or recovering a turnover, a team scores a touchdown by advancing the ball into the opponent's end zone. In American football, a touchdown is worth six points and is followed by an extra point or two-point conversion attempt.
