R-33 (missile)
The R-33 (, NATO reporting name: AA-9 Amos) is a long-range air-to-air missile developed by Vympel. It is the primary armament of the MiG-31 interceptor, intended to attack large high-speed targets such as the SR-71 Blackbird, the B-1 Lancer bomber, and the B-52 Stratofortress. It uses a combination of semi-active radar homing for initial acquisition and mid-course updates, and inertial navigation to reach the target at extreme range. The Zaslon phased array radar of MiG-31 allows six missiles to be guided simultaneously at separate targets. The R-33 AAM remains in service with the CIS and Russian forces (See MiG-31 operators). Development The history of the R-33 missile is tightly bound to the story of its launcher, the MiG-31. R33 (South Africa)
The R33 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Pietermaritzburg with Lephalale via Greytown, Paulpietersburg, Carolina, Belfast and Vaalwater. It is a very long road, passing through 3 provinces (Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal). Route Limpopo The R33 begins south of Lephalale, at a junction with the R510 next to The Junction Restaurant & Golf Range. It starts by going eastwards to cross the Mokolo River. After crossing the Mokolo River, the R33 turns south-east and heads for 85 kilometres, through the Grootwater Nature Reserve, to the town of Vaalwater, where it meets the eastern terminus of the R517. The R33 becomes the road south-east from this junction. It continues south-east for 63 kilometres to the town of Modimolle (formerly known as Nylstroom), entering the vicinity as Nelson Mandela Drive. R33 (New York City Subway Car)
The R33 was a New York City Subway car model that was built by St. Louis Car Company in 1962 and 1963. The cars are a "follow-up" or supplemental stock for the A Division (New York City Subway), A Division's R29/R99 (New York City Subway car), R29s and closely resemble them. The cars were also referred to as R33MLs (R33 Main Line) to distinguish them from the R33S (New York City Subway car), R33Ss. A total of 500 cars were built, numbered 8806–9305, and arranged in pairs. The R33s entered service on November 15, 1962, and were the first A Division (New York City Subway), A Division fleet to be retrofitted with air conditioning, being retrofitted between 1972 and 1982. The R33 fleet was overhauled between 1986 and 1991.
