Commune (Vietnam)
A commune () is a type of third tier subdivision of Vietnam. It is divided into 11,162 units along with Ward (Vietnam), wards and Commune-level town (Vietnam), townships, which have an equal status. Communes have a lower status than Provincial city (Vietnam), provincial cities, County-level town (Vietnam), towns or District (Vietnam), districts. This subdivision has existed since 1428, when Emperor Lê Thái Tổ re-organised the country into five administrative levels. Xã 社 was the lowest level, equivalent to a village. Since 2019, Vietnam has undertaken a comprehensive rearrangement of administrative units in order to streamline the apparatus of local authorities. The re-organisation, conducted in two periods, between 2020 and 2023 and between 2023 and 2030, comprises forced mergers of several districts and commune-level administrative units and localities. Regions Of Vietnam
The Vietnamese government often groups the various provinces and municipalities into three regions: Northern Vietnam, Central Vietnam, and Southern Vietnam. Northeast (Vietnam)
Đông Bắc (literally "Northeast" from ) is the regions of Vietnam, region to the north of the Red River Delta in Vietnam, bordering China. It is called ''Northeast'' to distinguish it from the Tây Bắc () or "Northwest", but it is actually in the north and northeast of Hanoi, wider than Việt Bắc () or "Northern Vietnam". Vietnam is divided into 34 first-level subdivisions, comprising 28 provinces () and six municipalities under the command of the central government (). Hà Giang Province
Hà Giang (, ) was formerly a Provinces of Vietnam, province in the Northeast (Vietnam), Northeast region of Vietnam. It was located in the far north of the country, and contains Vietnam's northernmost point. It shared a 270 km long China-Vietnam border, border with Yunnan province of southern China, and thus was known as Vietnam's final frontier. It coverd an area of , comprising 1 city and 10 rural districts, with a population of 899,900 in 2023. The provincial capital, also called Hà Giang, was connected by Highway 2 and is 320 km away from Hanoi. The border crossing was at Thanh Thủy, 25 km from the provincial capital.
