Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its roots are in blues, ragtime, European harmony, African rhythmic rituals, spirituals, hymns, marches, vaudeville song, and dance music. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. A supergroup is a musical group formed of members who are already successful as solo artists or as members of other successful groups. The term became popular in the late 1960s when members of already successful rock groups Collaborative_album, recorded albums together, after which they normally disbanded. Charity supergroups, in which prominent musicians perform or record together in support of a particular cause, have been common since the 1980s. Danny Michel
Danny Michel is a Canadian artist, songwriter and producer. Michel (Mish-elle) is a multi-Juno and Polaris Music Prize nominated songwriter from Ontario, Canada. Michel began making solo records in the 1990s after being a member of many bands, including the power-pop trio Starling. Soon after he signed a deal with MapleMusic Recordings/Universal Music Canada in 2003 and released "Tales From The Invisible Man". In 2004, he was nominated as "New Artist of the Year” at the Canadian Juno Awards and later released “Valhalla”. In 2008 Michel purchased the publishing of his entire catalogue back and independently released the album "Feather, Fur & Fin". Jim Cuddy
James Gordon Cuddy, (born December 2, 1955) is a Canadian singer-songwriter primarily associated with the band Blue Rodeo. Early life and education Cuddy was born in Toronto, Ontario. His mother Jean Cuddy was an English teacher at Monarch Park Secondary School. He attended North Toronto Collegiate Institute, where he met and befriended Greg Keelor, his future bandmate. He also went to Upper Canada College and Queen's University. Musical career The Hi-Fis After graduating from university, Cuddy and Keelor formed a band called the Hi-Fis along with Jim Sublett on drums and Malcolm Schell playing bass. The band released a single in 1980 featuring "Look What You've Done" and on the B side "I Don't Know Why (You Love Me)". The record was not a commercial success, and when they couldn't get a record deal in Toronto, they headed off to New York City. Interstellar Rodeo
Interstellar Rodeo was an annual three-day outdoor music event held the last weekend of July in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, established in 2012 and held at the Heritage Amphitheatre within Hawrelak Park. From 2015 to 2017, Six Shooter Records also had an Interstellar Rodeo in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The final Edmonton Interstellar Rodeo was in 2019. The festival showcases performers from numerous genres. Notable performers to date include Blue Rodeo, Randy Newman and Hawksley Workman in 2012, and Alabama Shakes, Steve Earle and the Dukes, Sarah Harmer, Serena Ryder and Shout Out Out Out Out in 2013. The Grange (Toronto)
The Grange is a historic Georgian architecture, Georgian manor in downtown Toronto, Ontario. It was the first home of the Art Museum of Toronto. Today, it is part of the Art Gallery of Ontario. The structure was built in 1817, making it the List of oldest buildings and structures in Toronto, 12th oldest surviving building in Toronto and the oldest remaining brick house. It was built for D'Arcy Boulton (1785–1846), D'Arcy Boulton (1785–1846), a son of G. D'Arcy Boulton.
