Quiet American (horse)
Quiet American (April 29, 1986 – October 14, 2016) was an American thoroughbred racehorse foaled in Florida. He is out of the Dr. Fager mare Demure, by the Grade I winner Fappiano, son of Mr. Prospector. Purchased for $300,000 as a yearling at the 1987 Fall Fasig-Tipton Tartan Stable Dispersal Sale by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Quiet American was very lightly raced at 2 and 3 and didn't come into his own until age 4, where he won both the NYRA Mile and the San Diego Handicap. Stud career Retired to stud at Darley Stud in 1992, Quiet American produced multiple stakes winners, with the most famous being Kentucky Derby winner Real Quiet. In total he has sired over 50 stakes winners with a cumulative earnings of $57 million. Fappiano
Fappiano (May 19, 1977 – September 3, 1990) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse whose most important win was the 1981 Metropolitan Handicap. When retired to stud, he became a major sire whose offspring included Kentucky Derby winner Unbridled. He was named for Joseph C. Nichols (1905–1984), a long-time sportswriter for ''The New York Times'', who was born Giuseppe Carmine Fappiano. Background Fappiano was bred and raced by U.S. Racing Hall of Fame trainer John Nerud and trained by his son, Jan. Bred in Florida, he was from one of the first crops of Mr. Prospector, then based in Florida, and helped establish Mr. Prospector's reputation as one of North America's leading sires. Real Quiet
Real Quiet (March 7, 1995 – September 27, 2010) was an American Champion Thoroughbred racehorse. He was nicknamed "The Fish" by his trainer due to his narrow frame. He is best remembered for winning the first two legs of American Triple Crown: the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. His loss in the third leg, the Belmont Stakes, was the smallest margin of defeat ever at only four inches. He was bred by Eduardo Gaviria, a Colombian proprietor of two stud farms: one near Bogotá in Colombia and another, Little Hill Farm, in Ocala, Florida, where Real Quiet was foaled. Gaviria purchased mare Really Blue, in foal to Spend A Buck, at the 1990 Keeneland November sale for $37,000. Gaviria decided to breed Really Blue with Quiet American. The result was Real Quiet. Holy Bull
Holy Bull (January 24, 1991 – June 7, 2017) was a champion Thoroughbred racehorse. Although he finished a disappointing twelfth in the 1994 Kentucky Derby, his major wins that year in the Florida Derby, Blue Grass Stakes, Metropolitan Handicap, Haskell Invitational, Travers Stakes and Woodward Stakes earned him American Horse of the Year honors. He suffered a career-ending injury in the Donn Handicap soon after the beginning of his four-year-old campaign in 1995.
