Vannes (; br, Gwened) is a commune in the Morbihan department in Brittany in north-western France. It was founded over 2,000 years ago. 2021–22 SailGP Championship
The 2021–22 SailGP Championship was the second season of the SailGP championship. Originally due to be contested in 2020, the season was postponed to 2021 after the first round in Sydney due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and was then extended into the early months of 2022. The championship was again won by the Australian team. New Zealand was the inaugural winner of the Impact League. Entries Team changes After only one season, China left the championship. Denmark and Spain joined the championship in Sydney, while New Zealand entered in Bermuda. Calendar Although the opening round in Sydney proceeded as planned, results from the race were declared void upon the postponement of the season until 2021. Nine races were expected in the expanded calendar, and eight were announced before the addition of a new Sydney round. Billy Besson
Billy Besson (born 8 March 1981) is a French competitive sailor. Besson was born in Papeete, French Polynesia where multihulls are central to the sailing culture. A child of Tahiti, he lived there with his family and learned to sail there. World Champion on the Dart 18 and F18, Besson has also amassed four world championship titles in the Nacra 17, forming a dynamic duo with Marie Riou. The skipper's serious back injury deprived the pair of their chance to vie for the Olympic title in Rio 2016 but, with unfinished business, the pair went back campaigning for Tokyo 2020. In 2018, whilst Riou was taking part in the Volvo Ocean Race, Besson was discovering offshore sailing for himself competing with two of France's most prestigious maxi-trimaran campaigns. SailGP is an international sailing competition using high performance F50 foiling catamarans, where teams compete across a season of multiple grands prix around the world. Its reigning champions are Tom Slingsby's Australia SailGP Team, who won their 2nd consecutive title in the 2021–22 SailGP championship. Background The competition was founded by Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle and champion yachtsman Russell Coutts. Their aim was to establish a commercially viable global race series with a large audience. This had been unsuccessfully attempted in the past with series such as the Extreme Sailing Series. The SailGP format uses fast foiling catamarans in a variety of spectacular locations. Teams are currently owned by the competition with the intention of becoming privately owned.
