Quebec Route 217
Route 217 is a provincial highway located in the Montérégie region of Quebec south of Montreal. It runs from Montée Guay in Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle and ends in La Prairie at the junctions of Route 104 and Autoroute 30. It serves in part as a service route for Autoroute 15 until Saint-Philippe and, where it runs along the Saint-Jacques River, and serves as a service route for Autoroute 30 until La Prairie and its northeastern terminus at Route 104. Route 217 previously extended south from Montée Guay to the Canada–US border, connecting with Meridian Road at Champlain, New York. However, this port of entry closed around 1950, with the Canada border station later dismantled and the US border station converted into offices for the United States Department of Agriculture. Brossard (, , ) is a municipality in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada and is part of the Greater Montreal area. According to the 2021 census, Brossard's population was 91,525. It shares powers with the urban agglomeration of Longueuil and was a borough of the municipality of Longueuil from 2002 to 2006. Lacolle, Quebec
Lacolle () is a municipality in southern Quebec, Canada, located in the administrative area of the Montérégie, on the Canada–United States border. The population as of the Canada 2011 Census was 2,680. The Lacolle River runs eastward through the middle of the town and empties in Richelieu River. More people cross the border illegally from the United States there than at any other point. Almost nineteen thousand people were detained in 2017. The nearest town across the border is Champlain, New York. History The written history of Lacolle can be traced back to July 4, 1609, when Samuel de Champlain and his entourage stopped briefly at the mouth of a small stream for a meal before continuing southward up the Richelieu River into the lake which now bears his name. Hemmingford is a township municipality in south-west Quebec, founded in 1799. The population as of the Canada 2011 Census was 1,747. The township completely surrounds the Village of Hemmingford. The two entities (village and township) are locally referred to collectively as Hemmingford. The two share many things, such as the cost of the volunteer fire department, and both hold their councils and offices in the same building in the village.
