Qubeys
Qubeys قبيس سر در is a member of the Surre, one of the sons of the greater Mehe Dir tribe. Qubeys is brother to Abdalle Surre Dir. Surre (Abdalle & Qubeys) History & overview Qubeys قبيس, along with Abdalle, are a subclan of the Surre (clan). Surre Mehe is a member of the Royal Dir tribe. The Word Qubeys is an ancient Somali word which was once common amongst the traditional Somali population. The word itself means cleanliness. With the introduction of Islam and the Arabic language to Somalia over 1000 years ago, Somalis changed the tradition of naming their sons Qubeys to Dahir or Tahir or طاهر in Arabic which also means cleanliness. The Qubeys and Abdalleh Surre Dir clans are known to have spread and taught the Islamic religion in southern and central Somalia. Surre (clan)
The Surre ( so, Surre, ar, سري), is a Somali clan, a sub clan of the major Somali Dir clans, The Surre inhabit in central and southern Somalia. And also can be found in Somaliland, Ethiopia and Kenya. History The Surre have been associated with spreading the Islamic faith in Somalia and the Qadiriya Sufi tariiqa in central and southern Somalia. They left what is now Somaliland in approximately 1316 C.E. for central and southern Somalia. The majority of the western scholars (both Italian and British) simply referred to the Surre as the "Dir of Puntland and Southcentral Somalia" without differentiating them, but recent studies in Somalia revealed that the Dir in Nugal, Mudug, Galgaduud, Hiran, and Gedo are divided into two branches, the Qubeys and the Abdalle, both descendants of Surre. the Surre were represented by the Southern Somali National Movement led by Abdi Aziz Sheikh Yusuf. Saleban Abdalle
Saleban Abdalle ( so, Saleebaan Cabdalle, ar, سليمان عبدالله), is a Somali sub-clan. It forms a part of the Surre subdivision of the major Somali Dir clan. Overview & Distribution The Saleban Abdalle are mainly pastoralists who depend on cattle in rural areas and in urban settlements they are mostly merchants and business people The Saleban Abdalle clan Muuse Faarahs are mainly local to Puntland especially in the regions of Nugal and Mudug and predominantly inhabit Tawfiiq District, Dahraan neighborhood of Galkayo of Mudug region and Godobjiran of Nugaal region, Gargoore in Isku Shuban and have a sizable presence in Bosaso the business capital of Puntland state and in Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia. Biimaal
Overview The Biimaal or Bimal, is a sub-clan of the major Dir clan family. This clan is widely known for leading a resistance against the colonials in southern Somalia for decades which can be compared to the war of the Sayyid in Somaliland. The Biimaal mainly lives in Southern Somalia, the Somali region of Ethiopia, which their Gaadsen sub-clan mainly inhabits and in the NEP region of Kenya. Distribution The Bimal are the dominant clan in Merca district of Lower Shabelle region and make up the majority in Jammaame district of Lower Jubba region. They also live in the NEP region of Kenya and especially in large numbers inhabit the Somali region of Ethiopia. Gadabuursi
The Gadabuursi ( Somali: ''Gadabuursi'', Arabic: جادابورسي), also known as ''Samaroon'' ( Arabic: ''قبيلة سَمَرُون)'', is a northern Somali clan, a sub-division of the Dir clan family. The Gadabuursi are geographically spread out across three countries: Ethiopia, Somaliland and Djibouti. Among all of the Gadabuursi inhabited regions of the Horn of Africa, Ethiopia is the country where the majority of the clan reside. In Ethiopia, the Gadabuursi are mainly found in the Somali Region, but they also inhabit the Harar, Dire Dawa and Oromia regions. The Issa (also Eesah, Esa, Aysa) ( so, Ciise, '', ar, عيسى)'' is a northern Somali clan, a sub-division of the Dir clan family.'
