Quark, Strangeness And Charm (song)
"Quark, Strangeness and Charm" is a 1977 song by the UK rock group Hawkwind, being the title track from the '' Quark, Strangeness and Charm'' album. The title references quarks which are sub-atomic particles; "strangeness" and "charm" are playful terms used by physicists to refer to how many strange and charm quarks are within a particle. The lyrics take a humorous look at certain famous physicists' romantic failures. 1977 single It was released as a single in the UK (CB305) on 29 July 1977, being a slightly different version to the one on the album. Some European copies had a different B-side, such as Germany, which featured "The Iron Dream" instead. The single version was subsequently included on the 1980 ''Repeat Performance'' compilation album. Since their formation in November 1969, Hawkwind have gone through many incarnations and have incorporated many different styles into their music, including hard rock, progressive rock and psychedelic rock. ''Road to Utopia'' is the thirty-first album by space rock band Hawkwind, released in 2018. It features new acoustic versions of the band's 1970s repertoire with two new compositions. The group's line-up had stabilised for some time with guitarist/singer Dave Brock, drummer Richard Chadwick, singer Mr Dibs and bassist Niall Hone being joined by bassist Haz Wheaton and guitarist Magnus Martin . They had toured Britain in March through May 2017 in support of their ''Into the Woods'' album, which featured an opening set performed acoustically. ''It Is the Business of the Future to Be Dangerous'' is the eighteenth studio album by the English space rock group Hawkwind, released in 1993. It spent one week on the UK albums chart at #75. As with the previous album, '' Electric Tepee'', the group remained a three-piece of guitarist Dave Brock, bassist Alan Davey and drummer Richard Chadwick. The album was recorded in 1993 at Brock's own Barking Dog Studios, produced with Paul Cobbold. The title track "It Is the Business of the Future to Be Dangerous" is a quote from the mathematician/philosopher Alfred Whitehead's ''Science and the Modern World'', which had originally been used on the sleeve notes to the ''Space Ritual'' album ("It is the business of the future to be dangerous; and it is among the merits of science that it equips the future for its duties"). The ''Hawkwind Anthology'' series of records were originally issued mid-1980s containing live and outtake material from Hawkwind's career to that date. Dave Brock compiled the package, essentially a best of '' The Weird Tapes'', for release on the Samurai imprint. It was released as three separate discs and also as a picture disc box set including an interview disc. It was subsequently licensed to receiver records and eventually sold to Castle Communications who have released as an extended set. "Because there was so much compilation and re-released material about, Jim White thought it would be a good idea to bring together a catalogue of all our own stuff that we liked, in the hope of stopping all that. Simon King (musician)
Simon King (born 12 August 1950) is an English drummer most noted for his work with Hawkwind. He was described in 1985 by British rock magazine '' Sounds'' as the 'definitive rock drummer.' Born in Oxford, King commenced his career as a teenager in the late 1960s in the Oxfordshire-based psychedelic group Opal Butterfly who produced three singles as well as contributing to the soundtrack to the film ''Groupie Girl'', in which King had a cameo role. At their demise, Opal Butterfly's frontman had been Lemmy who went on to join Hawkwind. Hawkwind were having problems with their drummer Terry Ollis so King was invited by Lemmy to play alongside Ollis, but after a couple of gigs Ollis left and his place was permanently taken up by King.
