Qixingtan Beach
The Qixingtan Beach or Chihsingtan Beach or in Sakizaya language Malongayangay () is a beach in Xincheng Township, Hualien County, Taiwan facing the Pacific Ocean. Naming and history Qixingtan Beach was originally located at the east of Hualien airport. Its shape is like the Big Dipper, so it is called Qixingtan. Back in 1936, Japanese government filled the lake in order to build the Hualien airport, and now there are only four ponds left. Japanese government forced the residents who lived at the original Qixingtan to move to “Crescent Bay”. The residents named the place Qixingtan in memory of the original Qixingtan. In June 2009, officials from Hualien County Government made a proposal to the Department of Environmental Protection to abolish the ''Qixingtan Environmental Impact Statement''. Xincheng Township or Sincheng Township () is a rural township located in north of Hualien County, Taiwan, and has a population of 20,308 inhabitants and 8 villages. Chihsing Tan Katsuo Museum
The Chihsing Tan Katsuo Museum () is a museum in Dahan Village, Xincheng Township, Hualien County, Taiwan. The museum is close to Qixingtan Beach and is dedicated to dried bonito fish (katsuobushi). History The museum was once a Japanese Katsuobushi factory which produced small dried fish flakes that would then be used in many Japanese dishes. It was then reopened as a museum in 2003. Architecture The museum is housed in a 3-story building. Exhibitions The museum exhibits the history of the bonito fish in Taiwan since the Japanese era.
