Qing Bao
Qing Bao ( zh, p=Qīng Bǎo, s=青宝, t=青寶) is a female giant panda who is currently residing at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. About Qing Bao was born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Sichuan, China, on September 12, 2021. Qing Bao is the cub of Jia Mei and Qing Qing. Qing Bao and Bao Li are the current giant pandas in residence at the National Zoo. Under the terms of the agreement with the China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA), the two pandas will be leased to the National Zoo for a little under 10 years, from Oct 2024 to April 2034, for a fee of US$1 million per year. In addition, any new cubs born to Qing Bao and Bao Li would ultimately have to be shipped to China's Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding before they reach the age of 4. Giant Panda
The giant panda (''Ailuropoda melanoleuca''), also known as the panda bear or simply panda, is a bear species endemic to China. It is characterised by its white animal coat, coat with black patches around the eyes, ears, legs and shoulders. Its body is rotund; adult individuals weigh and are typically long. It is sexually dimorphic, with males being typically 10 to 20% larger than females. A thumb is visible on its forepaw, which helps in holding bamboo in place for feeding. It has large molar teeth and expanded temporal fossa to meet its dietary requirements. Chengdu Research Base Of Giant Panda Breeding
The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding (or simply Chengdu Panda Base) is a government-funded non-profit breeding and research institute for giant pandas, red pandas, and other rare animals, located in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. Chengdu Panda Base was founded in 1987 by the Chengdu Municipal People's Government. It started with 6 giant pandas that were rescued from the wild. By 2008, it had 124 panda births, and the captive panda population has grown to 83. Its stated goal is to "be a world-class research facility, conservation education center, and international educational tourism destination." Bao Li () is a male giant panda cub who is currently residing at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. About Bao Li was born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Sichuan, China, on August 4, 2021. Bao Li is the cub of Bao Bao, who was born at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. In May 2024, it was announced that two giant panda cubs, Bao Li and Qing Bao, would be arriving at the National Zoo from China in 2024. On October 15, 2024, a FedEx plane carrying Bao Li and Qing Bao arrived at Dulles International Airport, where they were subsequently transported to the National Zoo.
