Qatar competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the nation's tenth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics. Fares El-Bakh became the first Qatari Olympic gold medallist. One of the most memorable events in their second gold medal was Mutaz Essa Barshim who, alongside Italian high jump athlete Gianmarco Tamberi, shared the gold medal respectively, with a memorable quote of Mutaz asking the official "Can we have two golds?". Abdirahman Saeed Hassan (born April 13, 1997) is a Qatari athlete who specializes in the 800m and 1500m. Abdirahman Saeed Hassan gained his first experience in international championships at the 2019 Asian Championships in Doha, where he finished fourth over 800 meters in 1:47.71 minutes. In the 1500m, he also qualified for and ran in the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha. In May 2021, Hassan met the qualifying standard and secured a spot at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in the men’s 1,500m event with a personal best in 3:34.24 for a second-place finish at the Enrique López Cuenca Stadium in Nerja, Malaga. The men's 800 metres event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place between 31 July and 4 August 2021 at the Japan National Stadium. In total 48 athletes were to start, but only 47 (from 29 nations) actually did. Emmanuel Korir of Kenya won the event, with his countryman Ferguson Rotich taking silver. It was the fourth consecutive victory in the men's 800 metres for Kenya. Patryk Dobek earned bronze, giving Poland its first medal in the event. Femi Seun Ogunode (born 15 May 1991 in Ondo City) is a Nigerian-born sprint athlete who competes internationally for Qatar since 2010. His personal best of 9.91 at 100 m in 2015 made him the former holder of the Asian 100m record, which was tied by China's Su Bingtian in 2018 and surpassed in 2021 at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
