QCW-05
The QCW-05 (, also referred to as the Type 05 Suppressed Submachine Gun) is a suppressed bullpup submachine gun, manufactured and developed by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) 208 Research Institute and Jianshe Industries (Group) Corporation of Chongqing under the China South Industries Group. Development In October 2001 the Jianshe Industries (Group) Corporation (owned by the China South Industries Group) won a bid to produce the PLA's next generation of submachine gun to replace the Type 79 and the Type 85 silenced submachine guns, beating out other competitors such as the Changfeng CF-05 due to its ease of construction and operation. At the 2005 International Police Equipment Expo in Beijing, Jianshe revealed their final product, a bullpup, blowback, open bolt submachine gun that externally resembled the QBZ-95 assault rifle which was then given the designation QCW-05. At the 2006 MILIPOL Expo, a smaller police and export version of the QCW-05 called the 'Jianshe JS ...

Type 79 Submachine Gun
The Type 79 () but more commonly known as () is the first generation indigenous submachine gun made in China. This development came in coincidence after the start of the Sino-Soviet split. The submachine gun was certificated in 1979 and entered mass production in 1983. History In August 1965, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) General Staff Department issued a requirement for a weapon that could be used by the Chinese military in a jungle environment. The 208th Research Institute of China Ordnance Industry was tasked to head the design. The project began to develop a prototype of "jungle submachine gun," and the research and development program began in 1966. It immediately encountered turmoil of the Culture Revolution in the same year. The project was repeatedly canceled between 1966 and 1970. It was reinstated in March 1970, and its prototype and testing phase began between 1971 and 1978. Between 1971 and 1975, the designer identified mechanical problems during torture tests, ...

Personal Defense Weapon
Personal defense weapons (PDWs) are a class of compact, magazine-fed automatic firearms that are typically submachine guns designed to fire rifle-like cartridges. Most PDWs fire a small-caliber (generally less than in bullet diameter), high-velocity centerfire bottleneck cartridge resembling a scaled-down intermediate cartridge, essentially making them an "in-between" hybrid between a submachine gun and a conventional carbine assault rifle. The use of these rifle-like cartridges gives the PDWs much better ballistic performance ( effective range, external ballistics and armor-penetrating capability) than conventional submachine guns, which fire larger-caliber but slower and less aerodynamic handgun cartridges. The low recoil of these "sub-intermediate" cartridges also makes muzzle jumps on PDWs (which typically have short barrels) much easier to handle than short-barreled rifles, especially when shooting in automatic fire or burst fire. The name describes the weapon's ...

CF-05
The CS/LS6, formerly CS/LS06 or CF-05, also known as the Changfeng submachine gun (), is a submachine gun developed by Chongqing ChangFeng Co. Ltd in the early 1990s in response to China's demand for a new submachine gun design. Development The CF-05 was designed by Qing Shangsheng, a senior designer of Chongqing ChangFeng Corporation, who also designed the QSZ-92 pistol. According to the designer, the CF-05 was his private project initiated between 1993 and 1994, and was not brought to the attention of his factory manager until 1996. Early prototypes were built to compete in People's Liberation Army's 5.8mm suppressed submachine gun project. The first prototypes had a secondary feed option, with a pistol magazine inserted into the pistol grip in addition to the distinctive helical magazine inserted at the feed-port located at the rear of the weapon, which makes the magazine works like a dual-purpose gunstock. Once the primary magazine had been exhausted, the shooter could sw ...

Magazine (firearms)
A magazine, often simply called a mag, is an ammunition storage and feeding device for a repeating firearm, either integral within the gun (internal/fixed magazine) or externally attached (detachable magazine). The magazine functions by holding several cartridge (firearms), cartridges within itself and sequentially pushing each one into a position where it may be readily loaded into the gun barrel, barrel chamber (firearms), chamber by the firearm's moving action (firearms), action. The detachable magazine is sometimes colloquially referred to as a "clip (ammunition), clip", although this is technically inaccurate since a clip is actually an accessory device used to help load ammunition into a magazine or cylinder. Magazines come in many shapes and sizes, from integral tubular magazines on lever-action and pump-action rifles and shotguns, that may hold more than five rounds, to detachable box magazines and drum magazines for automatic rifles and light machine guns, that may h ...

People's Liberation Army Ground Force
The People's Liberation Army Ground Force (PLAGF), also referred to as the PLA Army, is the army, land-based service branch of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), and also its largest and oldest branch. The PLAGF can trace its lineage from 1927 as the Chinese Red Army; however, it was not officially established until 1948. History In February 1949, the existing large number of armies and divisions were regularized into up to seventy armies of three divisions each. While some, such as the 1st Army (People's Republic of China), 1st Army, survived for over fifty years, a number were quickly amalgamated and disestablished in the early 1950s. It appears that twenty per cent or even more of the seventy new armies were disestablished up to 1953; in 1952 alone, the 3rd Corps (People's Republic of China), 3rd, 4th Corps (People's Republic of China), 4th, 10th Corps (People's Republic of China), 10th, 17th Corps (People's Republic of China), 17th, 18th Corps (People's Republic of C ...

Type 85 Submachine Gun
The Type 85 () is a Chinese submachine gun, developed during the early 1980s as a less expensive replacement for the Type 79 submachine gun. The weapon's silenced version was also developed to replace the Type 64 submachine guns in service with the People's Liberation Army (PLA). History Design of the Type 85 started between 1979 and 1983 and it was classified in 1985. Design work was done by the 208th Research Institute of China Ordnance Industry. Type 85's design is simplistic and straight-forward, and ease-to-manufacture. During development, there was criticism of its appearance, and it earned nicknames like "toy gun" or "the master work of plumber" in the Chinese military. The Type 85 was eventually adopted to start replacing the Type 64 in PLA service. The development of the Type 85 was planned to eventually replace the Type 79 submachine gun in PLA service. Type 79's service was rather disappointing due to its reliability issue. The development plan to replace the Type 7 ...

QSZ-92
The QSZ-92, sometimes known as the Type 92 (), is a semi-automatic pistol designed by Norinco. History The decision to develop a new pistol was made in 1987 to replace the Type 54 pistol, Type 54/64/77. Research and development started in 1992. Development of the QSZ-92 pistol began in 1994 and was adopted by the People's Liberation Army's forces in 1998. The export variants (9×19mm versions) include the CF-98 (barrel life c. 8,000 rds) and the NP-42 (barrel life c. 10,000 rds). The latter is the basic version without provisions for suppressor etc. Both have so far found commercial export in Canada. The CF-98 has also been sighted in parts of Africa. In June 2022, it's reported that Iraq has made the pistol as the Babylon through the Defence Industries Commission. They are sold to Iraqi lawyers who need personal protection. Former prime minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi was gifted the first Babylon made. It was reported that Norinco provided assistance in manufacturing the Babylon. O ...
