Pétange
Pétange (; lb, Péiteng, ; german: Petingen) is a commune and town in south-western Luxembourg. It is part of the canton of Esch-sur-Alzette. Pétange lies on the borders with both Belgium and France. , the town of Pétange, which lies in the north of the commune, has a population of 7,399. Other towns within the commune include Lamadelaine and Rodange. The commune is one of the smallest communes of Luxembourg, yet is the fifth-most populous. It is the most-populous commune without city status. History The modern settlement of Pétange was first mentioned in 938 by the name 'Perdgitten'. Six centuries later, Pétange had still not acquired much prominence; in 1536, it was home to only about 25 people. In 1601, the boundary between Luxembourg and the Duchy of Lorraine was definitively demarcated for the first time. Pierre Mellina
Pierre Mellina (born 25 February 1957) is a Luxembourgish politician and retired track and field athlete. Political office He is currently the Mayor of Pétange, a commune in the far south-west of the country, standing for the Christian Social People's Party (CSV). He was previously a member of the communal council (1994 – 99) and an échevin (2000 – 04) in Pétange. Sporting achievements In the early 1980s, Mellina was one of Luxembourg's foremost long-distance runners, winning the Luxembourgian national championships in the 5,000 (1981, 1982) and the 10,000 metres (1982). Rodange
Rodange (german: Rodingen) is a town in the commune of Pétange, in south-western Luxembourg. It lies next to the border with Belgium, across which is the town of Athus. The town is to the south-west of the town of Pétange and to the west of the smaller town of Lamadelaine. , Rodange has a population of 5,505, making it the 18th-most populous town in Luxembourg. The town has a railway station served by CFL trains. Rodange is situated on Line 70, which connects the south-west of the country to Luxembourg City; at Rodange, the line branches, and connects to both Athus and the French town of Longuyon (via Longwy).
