Pyusawhti Militia
Pyusawhti militias ( , also spelt Pyu Saw Htee) refers to three distinct groups of pro-military militias in Myanmar. The term was first used in 1955, when U Nu's government created Pyusawhti paramilitary units to assist the military with counterinsurgency operations. After a coup in 1958, the army tried to disband them as they had become loyal to local ruling-party politicians. However, their attempt was not completely successful. In the 2000s, Burmese media began using the term to refer to poorly trained irregulars mobilized by the military. In 2021, new village-based, loosely organised militia groups collectively known as the Pyusawhti emerged. These militias, officially called People's militias, were formed by supporters of the military of Myanmar and those suspected to be its supporters, who feared attacks by the resistance forces, most of which later turned into the People's Defence Forces. Anti-fascist Internationalist Front
The Anti-Fascist Internationalist Front (AIF) is an armed Internationalism (politics), Internationalist formation in Myanmar participating in the Myanmar civil war (2021–present), ongoing civil war. While foreign fighters have been observed in Myanmar prior to the foundation of the AIF, the first mention of the group came on 15 October 2024, when the group announced its formation and called on volunteers to join the conflict. Members of the AIF claim to have provided training to local resistance organizations, as well as having participated in battles against the State Administration Council. The AIF has made statements in solidarity with the Rojava conflict, revolution in North Eastern Syria, which received a reply from the Women's Protection Units. Myanmar Royal Dragon Army
The Myanmar Royal Dragon Army (MRDA; ), also known as Myanmar's Royal Dragon Army, was an armed resistance organisation based in Pale Township, Sagaing Region. It was founded on 1 January 2022 by its leader, Bo Nagar, and was under the command of the National Unity Government. The Myanmar Royal Dragon Army was reformed and renamed as the Burma National Revolutionary Army (BNRA; ) on September 9, 2023. The Kuki National Army (KNA) is a Kuki people, Kuki Insurgency, insurgent group active in Upper Myanmar and in pockets of Northeast India. It is the armed wing of the Kuki National Organisation. The Kayan New Land Party (, abbreviated: KNLP) is a political party in Myanmar. Its armed wing is Kayan New Land Army. The Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF; ) is a pro-democracy armed organization currently fighting in the Myanmar civil war. It is a defence force for the local Karenni federal state formed in response to the 2021 Myanmar coup d'état. The Karen National Liberation Army (; abbreviated KNLA) is the military branch of the Karen National Union (KNU), which campaigns for the self-determination of the Karen people of Myanmar (formerly Burma). Chinland Defense Force
The Chinland Defense Force (; abbreviated: CDF) is a rebel group in Myanmar. It was formed in response to the 2021 Myanmar coup d'état to protect Chin State from the military junta. The CDF claims that they do not attack the military without cause and that they always issue a warning, such as releasing detainees and refraining from using violence against civilians.
