Pyotr Ilyich Bilan
Pyotr Ilyich Bilan (russian: Петр Ильич Билан; 21 July 1921 – 22 September 1996) was an honored Soviet Russian - Ukrainian painter working in the genre of easel painting. His works particularly include portraits, landscapes and thematic paintings. Biography Pyotr Ilyich Bilan was born on 7 July 1921, in the village of Novonikolaevka in the Zaporizhzhia region, Ukrainian SSR, USSR. He was a soldier in World War II and was recruited in 1940. He became a prisoner of war when captured in the Belarusian SSR close to the Polish border in July 1941 by Nazi Germany. He was deported to different unknown locations and escaped a prisoner camp in Badisch-Rheinfelden after having been condemned to death on Easter in 1942. He escaped the camp by breaking the barbed wire and swimming across the partly frozen River Rhine to Switzerland by night. Mönthal
Mönthal is a municipality in the district of Brugg in canton of Aargau in Switzerland. History Originally it was a fortified late Bronze Age hilltop settlement. Additionally, a Roman bronze figure was discovered in the village. During the High Middle Ages there were a number of small settlements in the area. Some of these houses still exist, while others (such as Bernbrunnen, which was mentioned as an independent village about 1300) have vanished. Mönthal is first mentioned about 1273 as ''Muenuntal''. The low and high justice rights were held by the Habsburgs, until 1460 when they went to Bern. Under Bern it was part of the Schenkenberg bailiwick with the court in Stilli. St. George's church was first mentioned in 1273. After 1380 the rights to the church collection and the appointment of the minister was held by Brugg. Lviv National Museum
The Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum of Lviv ( uk, Національний музей у Львові імені Андрея Шептицького) is one of Ukraine's largest museums, dedicated to Ukrainian culture in all its manifestations. It was established by Metropolitan Archbishop Andrey Sheptytsky in 1905 and was originally known as the Lwow Ecclesiastical Museum. It currently bears Sheptytsky's name. History The founder donated some 10,000 items to the museum and raised the funds required for its maintenance. An extravagant Neo-Baroque villa was acquired to house the collections. The Russian Academy of Arts, informally known as the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts, was an art academy in Saint Petersburg, founded in 1757 by the founder of the Imperial Moscow University Ivan Shuvalov under the name ''Academy of the Three Noblest Arts''. Elizabeth of Russia renamed it the Imperial Academy of Arts and commissioned a new building, completed 25 years later in 1789 by the Neva River. The academy promoted the neoclassical style and technique, and sent its promising students to European capitals for further study. Training at the academy was virtually required for artists to make successful careers. Formally abolished in 1918 after the Russian Revolution, the academy was renamed several times. Kyiv Art Institute (KHI) uk, Київський художній інститут, russian: Киевский художественный институт (1924-1930) was the Ukrainian state art and technical high school which is the historical inheritor of Ukrainian Academy of Arts which was founded at December 5, 1917 in Kyiv by the Central Rada of Ukrainian People's Republic. During the Soviet era, the name of the institution changed several times. Kyiv Art Institute appeared as a result of reorganization and merger of Institute of Plastic Arts (1922-1924) and Ukrainian Institute of Architecture (1918-1924).
