Puyo Puyo 2
is a 1994 puzzle video game developed and published by Compile. It is the second installment in the ''Puyo Puyo'' series and the sequel to ''Puyo Puyo'' (1992). Due to its highly acclaimed success, it became the most predominant game of the series. Though with many of its rules being experimental, the ability of and became a top hit immediately, thus creating longer matches for better gameplay. Also due to its successes, it became the most widely known multiplatform game in Japan, appearing in the Arcade, on major domestic consoles, on major handhelds, on the NEC PC-9800 series, on the PC, and on others. On November 6, 2003, the company shut down amid bankruptcy. As a result, key staff moved to Compile Heart, the company's spiritual successor, whereas shoot-'em-up staff moved to MileStone Inc. The Compile trademark is being used as a brand label by Compile Heart to promote merchandise and games based on Compile properties. As of 2010, Compile Heart entered into a licensing deal with D4 Enterprise to create new video games based on franchises from Compile properties. This agreement does not affect the rights to the '' Puyo Puyo'' series as Sega retains ownership of the property. In April 2016, Niitani started a new successor company to Compile, Compile Maru. Puyo Puyo (video Game)
is a puzzle video game released in 1991 by Compile for the MSX2. Since its creation, it uses characters from '' Madō Monogatari''. It was created by Masamitsu "Moo" Niitani, the founder of Compile, who was inspired by certain elements from the ''Tetris'' and '' Dr. Mario'' series of games. The game was released by Tokuma Shoten on the same day of the MSX2 release under the name and as part of the Famimaga Disk series for the Family Computer Disk System.
