Puskwaskau Formation
The Smoky Group is a stratigraphic unit of Late Cretaceous Geochronology, age in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. It takes the name from the Smoky River and was first described in outcrops along the banks of the Smoky River, Spirit River and Pouce Coupe Rivers by George Mercer Dawson in 1881.Dawson, G.M., 1881. Pouce Coupe River
The Pouce Coupe River is a major tributary of the Peace River (Canada), Peace River in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada. Its name is officially spelled ''Pouce Coupé River'', but it is commonly written without the acute accent. Originating in Alberta's Saddle Hills County, it flows into British Columbia's Peace River Regional District, British Columbia, Peace River Regional District, then returns in Alberta in Saddle Hill County, where it empties into the Peace River. The region of Pouce Coupe Prairie, from which the river and village of Pouce Coupe, British Columbia, Pouce Coupe take their names, was called that for a Dunneza, Beaver Indian Chief named 'Pouscapee'. Geochronology is the science of Chronological dating, determining the age of rock (geology), rocks, fossils, and sediments using signatures inherent in the rocks themselves. Absolute geochronology can be accomplished through radioactive isotopes, whereas relative geochronology is provided by tools such as paleomagnetism and stable isotope ratios. By combining multiple geochronological (and biostratigraphic) indicators the precision of the recovered age can be improved. Geochronology is different in application from biostratigraphy, which is the science of assigning sedimentary rocks to a known geological period via describing, cataloging and comparing fossil floral and faunal assemblages. Northern Alberta

Cardium Formation
The Cardium Formation is a stratigraphic unit of Late Cretaceous age in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. It takes the name from the fossilized heart-shaped cockle shells in the family Cardiidae (from Greek ''kardiā'', "heart") present. Bentonite ( ) is an Absorption (chemistry), absorbent swelling clay consisting mostly of montmorillonite (a type of smectite) which can either be Na-montmorillonite or Ca-montmorillonite.
