Purcell School
The Purcell School for Young Musicians is a specialist private music school for children, located in the town of Bushey, south Hertfordshire, England, and is the oldest specialist music school in the UK. The school was awarded the UNESCO Mozart Medal in 2003, which was received on behalf of the school by King Charles, who is a patron of the school. Sir Simon Rattle is honorary president of the school. Many of the pupils subsequently study at leading conservatories across the country. In 2015, the School became the first Fazioli Pianoforti Centre of Excellence. The School's pupils are funded largely by the Government's Music and Dance Scheme, along with the School's own scholarship funds. Henry Purcell
Henry Purcell (, rare: ; September 1659 – 21 November 1695) was an English composer of Baroque music, most remembered for his more than 100 songs; a tragic opera, Dido and Aeneas, ''Dido and Aeneas''; and his incidental music to a version of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, ''A Midsummer Night's Dream'' called The Fairy-Queen, ''The Fairy Queen''. Anne Denholm
Anne Denholm is a Welsh harpist born in Carmarthenshire, who held the position of Official Harpist to the Prince of Wales from 2015 to 2019. Education Denholm was educated at Ysgol Gynradd y Dderwen and Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Myrddin. She then went on to study at the Junior Department of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, the Purcell School and Newnham College, Cambridge University. Denholm received her Master's in 2015 from the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) with distinction, graduating with the Renata Scheffel-Stein Harp Prize, the Sir Reginald Thatcher prize and a Regency Award for notable achievement. Nicholas Daniel
Nicholas Daniel (born 9 January 1962) is a British oboist and conductor. In 2003 he was appointed Artistic Director of the Leicester International Music Festival. Education He was educated at Salisbury Cathedral School and the Purcell School. Jacob Collier (born 2 August 1994) is a British singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and educator. His music incorporates a combination of jazz and elements from other musical genres, and often features extensive use of reharmonisations and Close and open harmony, close harmony. Robert Cohen (cellist)
Robert Cohen (born 15 June 1959) is a British concert cellist. Early life and education Cohen was born on 15 June 1959 in London to violinist Raymond Cohen and pianist Anthya Rael. Having begun playing the cello at age 5, at age 10 he entered the Purcell School for Young Musicians. He also began studies with William Pleeth. At age 12 he made his concerto debut at the Royal Festival Hall, where he performed the Boccherini Concerto in B flat. His Wigmore Hall recital debut followed at age 17. In 1975 he began studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, he graduated with a postgraduate Diploma of Advanced Solo in 1977. Adiescar Chase is an English multi-instrumentalist and composer. She composed the soundtrack of the Netflix series, ''Heartstopper''. Early life and education Chase is from Bedford, England. Without her knowledge, her mother enrolled her in the "Sound and Music Summer School" course at the Purcell School for Young Musicians. This sparked Chase's interest composing for film and TV. Miranda Sex Garden are an English music group from London. They were originally active from 1990 to 2000, reforming in 2022. Biography Origins (1990-1991) Formed in 1990, Katharine Blake, Kelly McCusker and Jocelyn West were originally a trio of madrigal singers, also skilled in the playing of various instruments. They had been educated at The Purcell School for Young Musicians in Bushey. The band's name came from the novel '' The Ticket That Exploded'' by William S. Burroughs. To develop performance experience (and raise spare cash) the trio opted to busk on the streets of London.
