Puppets (TV Series)
''Puppets'' () was a weekly Russian TV show of political satire, produced by Vasily Grigoryev and shown on Saturdays on the TV channel NTV. It used puppets to represent celebrities, mainly the major politicians. It was inspired by the French show Les Guignols de l'info. The show was well loved in Russia and has inspired spinoffs in other countries. President Vladimir Putin was frequently represented in the show. Closure During parliamentary elections in 1999 and presidential elections in 2000, NTV was critical of the Second Chechen War, Vladimir Putin and the political party Unity backed by him. In the puppet show ''Puppets'' in the beginning of February 2000, the puppet of Putin acted as Little Zaches in a story based on E.T.A. Hoffmann's '' Little Zaches Called Cinnabar'', in which blindness causes villagers to mistake an evil gnome for a beautiful youth. This provoked a fierce reaction from Putin's supporters. Viktor Anatolyevich Shenderovich (; born August 15, 1958) is a Russian satirist, writer, scriptwriter and radio host. Biography Shenderovich, born in Moscow into a family of Belarusian Jewish origin, graduated in 1980 from the Moscow State Art and Cultural University, specializing in "direction of volunteer theatrical groups". He is best known as a scriptwriter of the popular political puppet-show ''Puppets'', which aired on NTV from 1994 to 2002. He hosted the satirical author on NTV from 1997 to 2001 and on TV-6 in 2002. From 2003 to 2008 Shenderovich ran a weekly , on the Echo of Moscow radio-station. The texts of this program's editions were later collected in his 2010 book ''Better Two Heads Than One'' (), with implied reference to Dmitry Medvedev (President of Russia from 2008 to 2012) and to Vladimir Putin (Prime Minister of Russia during the same period). ''Spitting Image'' is a British satirical television puppet show, created by Peter Fluck, Roger Law and Martin Lambie-Nairn. First broadcast in 1984, the series was produced by 'Spitting Image Productions' for Central Independent Television over 18 series which aired on the ITV network. The series was nominated and won numerous awards, including ten BAFTA Television Awards, and two Emmy Awards in 1985 and 1986 in the Popular Arts Category. Roger Law
Roger Law (born 6 September 1941) is a British caricaturist, ceramicist and one half of ''Luck and Flaw'' (with Peter Fluck), creators of the popular satirical TV puppet show '' Spitting Image''. Roger Law was a pioneer in bringing political caricatures from newspapers and magazines to television. In 2020 Roger Law was executive producer on the new series of ''Spitting Image'' made with Avalon Productions and streamed on Britbox. Early life and education Law was born in Littleport, Cambridgeshire. Law went to Littleport Secondary Modern School in Littleport, Cambridgeshire, and attended Cambridge School of Art (now part of Anglia Ruskin University). He met Peter Fluck during his time there.
