Pup Rock
Rymill Bay () is a bay, wide at its mouth and indenting between Red Rock Ridge and Bertrand Ice Piedmont along the west coast of Graham Land, Antarctica. Location Rymill Bay is in the east of the larger Marguerite Bay in Graham Land on the Fallières Coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. It is south of Neny Fjord, west of Hadley Upland and north of Mikkelsen Bay. The Bertrand Ice Piedmond extends along its south shore, fed by Martin Glacier. Further north the bay is fed by Romulus Glacier. Red Bay is just north of the bay. Islands and rocks include Bar Island, off Red Bay, Refuge Islands, Garnet Rocks, Breccia Island, Pup Rock and Tiber Rocks. Exploration and name Rymill Bay was probably first seen from a distance by the French Antarctic Expedition (FrAE) under Jean-Baptiste Charcot in 1909. Fallières Coast
The Fallières Coast is that portion of the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula between the head of Bourgeois Fjord and Cape Jeremy and lies on Marguerite Bay and the Wordie Ice Shelf. Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition
The Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (RARE) was an expedition from 1947–1948 which researched the area surrounding the head of the Weddell Sea in Antarctica. Background Finn Ronne led the RARE which was the final privately sponsored expedition from the United States and explored and mapped the last unknown coastline on earth and determined that the Weddell Sea and the Ross Sea were not connected. The expedition included Isaac Schlossbach, as second in command, who was to have Cape Schlossbach named after him. The expedition, based out of Stonington Island was the first to take women to over-winter. Ronne's wife, Edith Ronne was correspondent for the North American Newspaper Alliance for expedition and the chief pilot Darlington took his wife. The Debenham Islands () are a group of islands and rocks lying between Millerand Island and the west coast of Graham Land, Antarctica. Location The Debenham Islands are in Marguerite Bay in Graham Land on the Fallières Coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. They are south of Cape Calmette, north of Millerand Island and west of the mouth of Northeast Glacier. The Argentinian San Martín Base is located on Barry Island. Discovery and name The Debenham Islands were discovered and named by the British Graham Land Expedition (BGLE) (1934–37) under John Rymill. It is bounded by Windy Valley and Martin Glacier, Gibbs Glacier and Lammers Glacier. Douglas Mawson
Sir Douglas Mawson (5 May 1882 – 14 October 1958) was a British-born Australian geologist, Antarctic explorer, and academic. Along with Roald Amundsen, Robert Falcon Scott, and Sir Ernest Shackleton, he was a key expedition leader during the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. Mawson was born in England and was brought to Australia as an infant. He completed degrees in mining engineering and geology at the University of Sydney. In 1905 he was made a lecturer in petrology and mineralogy at the University of Adelaide. Mawson's first experience in the Antarctic came as a member of Shackleton's Nimrod Expedition, ''Nimrod'' Expedition (1907–1909), alongside his mentor Edgeworth David. They were part of the expedition's northern party, which became the first to attain the South magnetic pole and to climb Mount Erebus. British Australian And New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition
The British Australian (and) New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition (BANZARE) was a research expedition into Antarctica between 1929 and 1931, involving two voyages over consecutive Austral summers. It was a British Commonwealth initiative, driven more by geopolitics than science, and funded by the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. The leader of the BANZARE was Sir Douglas Mawson and there were several subcommanders (Captain K.N. MacKenzie, who replaced Captain John King Davis for the second summer) on board the RRS ''Discovery'', the ship previously used by Robert Falcon Scott. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee (or UK-APC) is a United Kingdom government committee, part of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, responsible for recommending names of geographical locations within the British Antarctic Territory (BAT) and the South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (SGSSI). Such names are formally approved by the Commissioners of the BAT and SGSSI respectively and published in the BAT Gazetteer and the SGSSI Gazetteer maintained by the Committee. Mikkelsen Bay () is a bay, wide at its mouth and indenting , entered between Bertrand Ice Piedmont and Cape Berteaux along the west coast of Graham Land, Antarctica. Location Mikkelsen Bay is in the east of the larger Marguerite Bay in Graham Land on the Fallières Coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. It is south of Rymill Bay and the Bertrand Ice Piedmont, southwest of the Hadley Upland, west of the Godfrey Upland and north of the Hariot Glacier. Clarke Glacier flows into the southeast corner of the bay. Other features of the coast include Moraine Cove, Pavie Ridge, Dee Ice Piedmont, Doggo Defile, Baudin Peaks and Cape Berteaux.
