Punzo Players
Punzo were a Cuban baseball team that played in the Cuban Summer Championship in 1904. The club featured players mostly from the Cuban League and were managed by Alberto Azoy. Cuban League
The Cuban League ( Spanish: ''Liga cubana'') was one of the earliest and longest lasting professional baseball leagues outside the United States, operating in Cuba from 1878 to 1961. The schedule usually operated during the winter months, so the league was sometimes known as the "Cuban Winter League." The league generally comprised 3 to 5 teams, and was centered in Havana, though it sometimes included teams from outlying cities such as Matanzas or Santa Clara. Despite its name, it was not the only professional league active in Cuba during that time, nor was it always the most popular; Peter C. Bjarkman argues that amateur play drew far more interest due to its reach outside the capital. However, the Cuban League did join Major League Baseball's National Association in 1947, becoming the first Latin American league to join the fold of " Organized Baseball". Alberto Azoy
Alberto Azoy (died September 18, 1952) was a Cuban baseball manager in the Cuban League. He managed several teams, including Habana Havana (; ) is the capital and largest city of Cuba. Alfredo Arcaño
Alfredo Arcaño (1868 - death date unknown) was a Cuban professional baseball left fielder and center fielder in the Cuban League and the negro leagues. He played from 1888 to 1909 with several ballclubs, mostly with the Habana club. He was elected to the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in 1940. Career Arcaño made his Cuban League debut in 1888 with Habana, ending the season with a .272 batting average in 15 games. In the 1889 spring and summer season, he led the league in at-bats, with 87, triples, with three, and was one of only two players to hit a home run all season. Arcaño hit .206 in 15 games during the winter of 1889, and .307 in the winter of 1890. He led the league in triples and home runs again in the spring and summer of 1892, with three of each, while hitting .361, the second highest in the league. Julián Castillo Calderón de la Barça (January 23, 1880 – December, 1948) was a Cuban professional baseball first baseman in the Cuban League and Negro leagues. Castillo played from 1899 to 1914 with several Cuban League ballclubs, including Almendares, Club Fé and Habana. He also played in the Negro leagues in 1911 for the Cuban Stars (West) and the All Cubans. Luis "El Mulo" Padrón Otorena (ca. 1878 – 1939) was a Cuban professional baseball corner outfielder, pitcher and third baseman in the Negro leagues and Cuban League. Padron played from 1902 to 1917 with several Cuban ballclubs, including Habana, San Francisco, Club Fé, San Francisco Park, and Almendares.
