Punta Maldonado
Punta Maldonado (also known as El Faro on account of the nearby lighthouse) is a small coastal community in the Mexican state of Guerrero. Previously located in the municipality of Cuajinicuilapa, it became part of the new municipality of San Nicolás upon its creation in 2021. It is notable for its Afro-Mexican population. The local economy is centred on fishing, particularly for lobster. The beach is also an attractive tourist destination. Cuajinicuilapa (municipality)
Cuajinicuilapa is a municipality in the Mexican state of Guerrero and is the southernmost municipality in Guerrero. The municipal seat lies at Cuajinicuilapa. The municipality covers an area of 857.1 km2. In 2020, the municipality had a total population of 26,627, up from 25,537 in 2005. According to data provided by the XII General Census of 2000 documenting Population and Housing carried out by the National Institute of Geographic Statistics and Informatics (INEGI), there are three main ethnic groups in the municipality: whites, indigenous Mexicans and blacks, which by intermarriage have formed the current phenotypical characteristics of some of the Cuajinicuilapa population. The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN; "National Meteorological Service") is Mexico's national weather organization. It collects data and issues forecasts, advisories, and warnings for the entire country. History A presidential decree founded El Observatorio Meteorológico y Astrónomico de México (The Meteorological and Astronomical Observatory of Mexico) on February 6, 1877 as part of the Geographic Exploring of the National Territory commission. Afro-Mexicans (), also known as Black Mexicans (), are Mexicans of total or predominantly Sub-Saharan African ancestry. As a single population, Afro-Mexicans include individuals descended from both free and enslaved Africans who arrived to Mexico during the colonial era, as well as post-independence migrants.
