Punciidae is the only surviving family in the ostracod order Palaeocopida. Of the three known genera, ''Manawa'' is eyeless. No information available if ''Promanawa'' and ''Puncia'' have eyes or not. Palaeocopida is an order of ostracods in the subclass Podocopa. Most species in the suborder are extinct, and only the genera '' Manawa'', '' Promanawa'', and '' Puncia'' in the family Punciidae are extant. Ostracod
Ostracods, or ostracodes, are a Class (biology), class of the crustacean, Crustacea (class Ostracoda), sometimes known as seed shrimp.
