Punchlines
''Punchlines'' was a comedy panel game show that aired on ITV from 3 January 1981 to 22 December 1984, hosted by Lennie Bennett. The show was based on a failed 1979 American game show pilot of the same name hosted by Bill Cullen, which, in turn, was an attempted reboot of another American game show, ''Eye Guess'' (1966–69). Format Main Game Each week, teams comprising a celebrity guest and a non-celebrity had to match punchlines given by eight other guests who were seated in ''Celebrity Squares''-style boxes to the questions asked by the host. The first team to reach 150 points won the chance to win a major prize, while the losing contestant left with a Lennie Bennett doll in the first two series. Lennie Bennett
Michael Berry (26 September 1938 – 8 April 2009), known professionally as Lennie Bennett, was an English comedian and game-show host. After attending the Palatine Secondary School in Blackpool, Bennett became a journalist for the '' West Lancashire Evening Gazette'' before becoming a professional hypnotist and appearing on the BBC light entertainment programme '' The Good Old Days'' in 1969. He starred with Jerry Stevens in the ''Lennie and Jerry Show'' (originally titled ''Lennie and Jerry''), which ran from 1978 to 1980. Bennett was also the host of '' Punchlines'' and '' Lucky Ladders'' in the 1980s. Matthew Kelly
Matthew Kelly (born David Allan Kelly, 9 May 1950) is an English actor and television presenter. Having been trained as a theatre actor, he first came to public prominence as a television sitcom actor, game-show panellist and television presenter of ITV light entertainment shows such as '' Game for a Laugh'', '' You Bet!'' and '' Stars in Their Eyes''. In the 2000s he returned to acting, appearing in several West End productions and playing television roles. Early life and education Kelly was involved with Urmston Musical Theatre in Urmston, Lancashire, most notably playing the role of Louis in a production of '' The King and I'' in 1963. Robin Houston
Robin Houston (born London, 1947) is a British voiceover artist and former announcer, radio and television newsreader and quiz show host. After starting his career as an announcer and stage manager, he became one of the pioneers of commercial radio in the United Kingdom. He went on to read the news on television for 15 years and to become one of the most well known announcers in television entertainment. Eye Guess
''Eye Guess'' is an American game show created by Bob Stewart and hosted by Bill Cullen that aired on NBC from January 3, 1966, to September 26, 1969. The game combined a general knowledge quiz with a ''Concentration''-style memory element, in which the answers were shown to the players and their recall of their positions was tested. This was the first game show by Bob Stewart Productions. Stewart, a former producer for Goodson-Todman Productions, created this series and packaged it with Filmways. Don Pardo announced for the first year, after which Jack Clark replaced him for the rest of the run. The show used the Al Hirt tune " Sugar Lips" as its theme song. Gameplay Two contestants faced a nine-space game board divided into three rows of three boxes. The outer boxes were numbered 1–8, and the center box contained the "Eye Guess" logo. Jeremy Kewley
Jeremy Leo Kewley (born 16 August 1960) is an Australian former actor, writer, and producer. He made his professional acting debut as an adolescent in the feature film '' The Devil's Playground'' (1976). Early life Kewley was born 16 August 1960 in Melbourne, Australia. Seven Network (stylised 7Network, and commonly known as Channel Seven or simply Seven) is an Australian commercial free-to-air Television broadcasting in Australia, television network.
