Pumas CU
The Pumas CU football program represents the National Autonomous University of Mexico (, UNAM) in college football at the ONEFA level. UNAM has competed in the Liga Mayor since the 2014 season. The team is led by head coach José Luis Canales. The Pumas plays its home games at Estadio Olímpico Universitario in Mexico City. They maintain a fierce rivalry with teams from the National Polytechnic Institute (Spanish: ''Instituto Politécnico Nacional'', or ''IPN'') particularly with its Miguel Hidalgo-based team from Santo Tomás, Águilas Blancas. University Olympic Stadium () is a multi-purpose stadium located inside Ciudad Universitaria, Mexico City, Ciudad Universitaria in Mexico City. The 1945 Sun Bowl was a postseason college football bowl game held at Kidd Field in El Paso, Texas, on January 1, 1945, with approximately 13,000 spectators in attendance. The game featured the 1944 Southwestern Pirates football team, Southwestern Pirates representing Southwestern University and the representing the 1944 UNAM Pumas American football team, National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). This game was the first time an American football bowl game has included a team from Mexico. The next time an American Division I college would play a Mexican opponent was the 2011 Kilimanjaro Bowl. Andrés Salgado Gómez (born December 2, 1991) is a Mexican professional gridiron football wide receiver for the Raptors de Naucalpan of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA). Millard Fleming "Dixie" Howell (November 24, 1912 – March 2, 1971) was an American football and baseball player and coach. He played college football as a halfback at the University of Alabama from 1932 to 1934 and with the Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL) in 1937. Howell served as the head football coach at Arizona State Teachers College at Tempe, now Arizona State University, from 1938 to 1941 and at the University of Idaho from 1947 to 1950, compiling a career coaching record of 36–35–5 in college football.
