Pumajaw
Pumajaw are a Scotland-based electronic duo, composed of Scottish singer-songwriter Pinkie Maclure (vocals, synths, samples, concertina) and English musician/producer John Wills (guitar, samples, synths, drum programming). The duo met in London in 1994 when Wills produced Maclure's solo album. John Wills had previously been a founder member of Loop and The Hair and Skin Trading Company. Originally known as "Pinkie Maclure and John Wills", the duo changed their name following their move to Scotland from London in 2001. Their music is characterised by a blend of rich, cinematic arrangements and wide-ranging, jazz-inflected vocals. They have recorded six albums together since 2000, influenced stylistically by film soundtracks, jazz, psychedelic folk and electronica. Pinkie Maclure
Pinkie Maclure (born 1966) is a Scottish stained glass artist and musician. Her work has been purchased by the National Museum of Scotland. Biography Maclure grew up in rural Scotland, taking up stained glass later in life. She initially worked with her partner to restore and conserve historic stained glass, and later began creating her own work. Maclure's lightboxes are recognisable for both their technical experimentation and their mix of personal, social and environmental storytelling. Critics note that her work moves stained glass away from a decorative approach and back towards its medieval story telling roots. In 2020 the National Museum of Scotland purchased her piece ‘Self-portrait Dreaming of Portavadie.’ In 2021 Maclure's work 'Green Man Searches for Wilderness' was selected to appear in 'England on Fire: a visual journey through Albion's psychic landscape' a book and accompanying exhibition by Stephen Ellcock. The Hair And Skin Trading Company
The Hair and Skin Trading Company is a British drone / avant-noise group formed in 1991 by ex-Loop members Neil Mackay (vocals/bass) and John Wills (drums). Joined by Nigel Webb (Guitars) and Richard Johnston on samples (who left as a band member during the recording of the first album, but periodically collaborated as a live engineer adding live dub to their sound and whose samples also appear on ''Psychedelische Musique'' uncredited), they released their debut album ''Jo in Nine G Hell'' on Beggars Banquet Records in 1992. Loop (band)
Loop are an English rock band, formed in 1986 by Robert Hampson in Croydon. The group topped the UK independent charts with their albums '' Fade Out'' (1989) and '' A Gilded Eternity'' (1990). Their dissonant "trance-rock" sound drew on the work of artists like the Stooges, Suicide and Can, and helped to resurrect the concept of space rock in the late 1980s. The group split in 1991, with Hampson going on to form the experimental project Main with guitarist Scott Dawson, and Mackay and Wills forming The Hair and Skin Trading Company. Various Productions
Various, or Various Production, is an English dubstep/electronic music duo formed in 2002. The group blends samples, acoustic and electronic instrumentation, and singing from a revolving cast of vocalists. Its members, Adam and Ian, purposefully give very little information about the group or themselves, and tend to do little in the way of self-promotion. Nevertheless, the group began winning critical acclaim with its single releases in 2005 and 2006, with singers Rachel Thomas Davies and Nicola Kearey. Their full-length for XL, ''The World is Gone'', arrived in July 2006. They have released a large number of vinyl EPs and 7" records, as well as digital exclusives for Rough Trade, iTunes, and Boomkat.
