The Pulheim Gophers are a baseball and softball section of the sports club Pulheimer SC from Pulheim, North Rhine-Westphalia. The club was founded in 1989, and the first men's team was promoted to the first division of the Baseball Bundesliga The Baseball-Bundesliga is the professional elite competition for the sport of baseball in Germany. Pulheim
Pulheim (; Ripuarian: ''Pullem'') is a town in the Rhein-Erft-Kreis, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Since the 1920s, a large substation of the ''Rheinisch-Westfälisches Elektrizitätswerk AG'' (RWE) is located at Pulheim. It is the end of the north south powerline and a large control center for the power grid of the RWE. In the communal reform of 1975, several previously independent municipalities were added to the municipality Pulheim, which received city rights in 1981. Pulheim consists of 12 quarters (''Stadtteile''), including Brauweiler, Geyen and Stommeln. Pulheimer SC
Pulheimer SC is a German sports club from Pulheim. It has sections for association football, handball, baseball (Pulheim Gophers), hockey, inline hockey, volleyball, badminton, tennis, table tennis, budo, fencing, track and field, cycling, swimming, dancing, and chess. In June 1924, ''SC Sparta Pulheim'' was founded as a football club. Numerous other sports were added over the years. On 9 September 1966 it merged with ''VfL Pulheim'' (founded 1957), creating the modern club. Bundesliga (baseball)
The Baseball-Bundesliga is the professional elite competition for the sport of baseball in Germany. In it, the men's German championship is determined annually. Like most European sports leagues, the Bundesliga uses a system of promotion and relegation. The highest division of the Bundesliga currently consists of sixteen teams in two divisions, with each team playing four games against each other team. The league is regulated by the German Baseball and Softball Association (DBV). Season format After a 28-game regular season (8 teams per division), the first four teams in the North and the South make the playoff quarterfinals. The team with the best record in the regular season plays the fourth-best team of the opposite division, and the 2nd-place team plays the 3rd-place team of the opposite division.
