Puig Neulós
Puig Neulós (french: Pic du Néoulous) is the highest mountain of Albera Range, an eastern prolongation of the Pyrenees in Catalonia, between France and Spain. It has an elevation of 1,256 metres above sea level. There are some antennas on the summit and there is a paved road on the French side restricted to military use. The summit, as well as most of the southern side of the range is part of the Paratge Natural d'Interès Nacional de l'Albera natural reserve. A man-made rock formation known as La Reyne de las Founs surrounds a water source coming out of the mountain. Built by 19th century shepherd Emmanuel Coste, known as Manel, it is inscribed with the quotation "les douaniers ici trouvent souvent ce qu'ils cherchent". Later, smugglers used pebble formations to codify messages about customs officials in the vicinity. La Jonquera
La Jonquera () is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of l'Alt Empordà, in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated next to the border with Northern Catalonia, nowadays France, opposite the municipality of Le Perthus. History The area has always been an important pass through the Pyrenees. A contemporary motorway runs not far from the ancient Roman road, the ''Via Augusta''. Not far from there is an altar erected by Pompey at the Coll de Panissars. La Jonquera was the site of a conflict involving the retreating French crusaders in 1285 that ended in their defeat. Geography Civil parishes La Jonquera (2,888 inhabitants in the village) has 4 civil parishes (''poblaciones''). Albera Range
The Albera Massif ( ca, Serra de l'Albera) (french: Massif des Albères) is a mountain range located in the south of Pyrénées-Orientales and the north of Catalonia, between France and Spain. It is the main easternmost prolongation of the Pyrenees. Its highest peak is the Puig Neulós, with an elevation of 1,256 metres. Most of the southern side of the range is part of the Paratge Natural d'Interès Nacional de l'Albera natural reserve. There are some ancient megaliths in the range. The Col du Perthus marks the western boundary of the massif.
