The 2011 Puerto Rico Soccer League season was the 3rd season of Puerto Rico's top-division professional football league. The regular season ran from April to July 2011. The league had planned in 2010 to make use of an Apertura and Clausura format, but this format was not be utilized. The Sevilla FC Puerto Rico won the regular season, but was defeated at the Playoff final by debuting FC Leones de Ponce. Guaynabo Fluminense Futbol Club is an Association Football club from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The team was a founding member of the Puerto Rico Soccer League. The club is affiliated with Fluminense Football Club, a leading team from Brazil. The team's kit is similar to the ones used by their Brazilian counterpart. Football is one of the leading sports of Puerto Rico, ranking only behind baseball, basketball and boxing in national popularity and is the number one participation sport on the island. There has been a significant growth in the sport in recent years, as traditionally football has played a very small role in Puerto Rico. The sport on the island is governed by the Puerto Rican Football Federation an affiliate of FIFA. History Early years (1900-1919) It is said that the sport was played during Spanish colonial times, mostly by soldiers in the field in front of El Morro. By 1904, games were being played there between sailors of foreign ships which docked in San Juan Harbor, but it was not until 1911 that the first organized club was formed, Comercio Sporting Club, which organized games between members of the club. Puerto Rico U-20 National Football Team
The Puerto Rico national under-20 football team represents Puerto Rico in tournaments at the under-20 level. The team is controlled by the Puerto Rican Football Federation. History Puerto Rico made its first appearance on the 1974 CONCACAF Championship, losing all of their matches. They didn't record a win until 1976 against Barbados. It wasn't until 2012 where they had their most successful campaign under coach Jeaustin Campos where they advance through all of the Caribbean qualification and made it to the CONCACAF Championship in Puebla, México. In 2021, Puerto Rico booked their place on the 2022 CONCACAF U-20 Championship for their second time in history, this time under coach Dave Sarachan after advancing as group leaders defeating Bermuda 6–0 on final matchday. Puerto Rico United is a Puerto Rican association football team based in Aguada, Puerto Rico founded in 2007. The team has played professionally in the Puerto Rico Soccer League (PRSL) and briefly in the American USL Professional Division. The team last competed in a professional league in 2011. The 2011 CFU Club Champions’ Cup was the 13th edition of the CFU Club Championship, the annual international club football competition in the Caribbean region, held amongst clubs whose football associations are affiliated with the Caribbean Football Union (CFU). Tornados De Humacao
Tornados de Humacao is a Puerto Rican football club based in Humacao, which currently plays in the Puerto Rico Soccer League. It is affiliated to Pachuca of Mexico. History The team plays in Nestor Morales Stadium in Humacao. Early years The team's origins date back to 1994, when Colombian coach Jorge Eliécer Paredes brought together a group of boys in the neighborhood of Villa Universitaria, Humacao to practice the sport every Saturday. It wasn't until 20 April 1995 that the team officially registered in the FPF as Club de Fútbol Tornados de la Ciudad Gris, and that same year they started participating in federation sponsored youth tournaments and events.
