Puducherry Legislative Assembly
The Puducherry Legislative Assembly (French language, French: ''Assemblée législative de Pondichéry'') is the unicameral legislature of the Indian States and union territories of India, union territory (UT) of Puducherry (union territory), Puducherry, which comprises four districts: Puducherry district, Puducherry, Karikal district, Karaikal, Mahe district, Mahé and Yanam district, Yanam. Out of eight union territories of India, only three have legislatures and they are Delhi, Puducherry (union territory), Puducherry and Jammu and Kashmir (union territory), Jammu and Kashmir. After delimitation shortly after its formation, the Puducherry legislative assembly has 30 seats, of which 5 are reserved for candidates from scheduled castes and 3 members are nominated by the Government of India. 30 members are elected directly by the people based on universal adult franchise . The Puducherry District, also known by its former name Pondicherry district, is one of the four districts of the union territory of Puducherry in South India. The district occupies an area of , spread over 12 non-contiguous enclaves lying on or near the Bay of Bengal within a compact area in the state of Tamil Nadu.
