Pudong Football Stadium (), formerly known as Jingang Road () is a station that is part of Line 14 of the Shanghai Metro. Pudong is a list of administrative divisions of Shanghai, district of Shanghai located east of the Huangpu River, Huangpu, the river which flows through central Shanghai. The name ''Pudong'' was originally applied to the Huangpu's east bank (geography), bank, directly across from the west bank or Puxi, the historic city center. An island platform (also center platform (American English) or centre platform (British English)) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are sometimes used between the opposite-direction tracks on twin-track route stations as they are cheaper and occupy less area than other arrangements. Line 14 of the Shanghai Metro is an east-west metro line opened on 30 December 2021. The line, consisting of 31 stations, starts from Fengbang town in Jiading District, and terminate in Jinqiao town in Pudong New Area via , , , and . Its total length is , and passengers are able to transfer to 13 existing and planned metro lines. Due to Line 14 cutting across some of the densest areas of Shanghai and being a relief line for line 2, high ridership is expected for the line. As such the line uses high capacity 8 car A size trains similar to lines 1 and 2. The line uses an automatic train control system jointly developed by Thales and Shanghai Electric. Completed in October 2020, it is the home of Chinese Super League club Shanghai Port FC, Shanghai Port. The stadium has a capacity of 37,000. Construction Construction began on 28 April 2018 according to the construction plans of HPP Architekten. The white metal exterior design of the stadium is based on reminiscent of a Chinese porcelain bowl. Events On 4 June 2019, China was announced as the host of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. It was subsequently reported that the final and one semi-final would be held at the venue. However, in May 2022, China withdrew from hosting the tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic in China.
