Puch Bridge
The Puch Bridge ( sl, Puhov most), officially the Bridge over the Drava River in Ptuj (), is an extradosed bridge over the Drava River near lake Ptuj in northeastern Slovenia. It is named after the inventor Johann Puch (1862–1914). It is long and wide, and has an area of . It was built from October 2005 until May 2007, when it was opened for traffic. Its architects were Peter Gabrijelčič and Viktor Markelj Viktor Markelj (born 1958, Zgornja Bistrica) is a Slovenian structural engineer and bridge specialist. Ptuj
Ptuj (; german: Pettau, ; la, Poetovium/Poetovio) is a town in northeastern Slovenia that is the seat of the Municipality of Ptuj. Ptuj, the oldest recorded city in Slovenia, has been inhabited since the late Stone Age and developed from a Roman military fort. Ptuj was located at a strategically important crossing of the Drava River, along a prehistoric trade route between the Baltic Sea and the Adriatic. The area is part of the traditional region of Styria and it was part of the Austria-Hungarian Empire. Lake Ptuj (; sl, Ptujsko jezero) is a reservoir on the Drava River southeast of the town of Ptuj in eastern Slovenia. It is the largest reservoir in Slovenia and was created in 1978 when a dam for the Formin hydroelectric power plant was built on the Drava. Extradosed Bridge
An extradosed bridge employs a structure that combines the main elements of both a prestressed box girder bridge and a cable-stayed bridge. The name comes from the word '' extrados'', the exterior or upper curve of an arch, and refers to how the "stay cables" on an extradosed bridge are not considered as such in the design, but are instead treated as external prestressing tendons deviating upward from the deck. In this concept, they remain part of (and define the upper limit of) the main bridge superstructure. Compared to a cable-stayed or cantilever-girder bridge of comparable span, an extradosed bridge uses much shorter stay-towers or pylons than the cable-stayed bridge, and a significantly shallower deck/girder structure than used on the girder bridge. Johann Puch
Johann Puch ( sl, Janez Puh, 27 June 1862 – 19 July 1914) was a Slovene inventor and mechanic who went on to become the founder of the Austrian Puch automobile plants, then one of the most significant vehicle producers in Europe. Biography Johann Puch was born on 27 June 1862 to Slovene peasants at house no. 79 in Sakušak near Ptuj (''Pettau''), part of Lower Styria, Slovenia. He was the son of the cottager Franz Puch and Agnes Ziserl Puch, and he was baptized ''Johann Puch'' the same day in Juršinci. The eldest son of nine children, he left his family home at the age of eight and at twelve apprenticed as a locksmith in Ptuj. Having finished his training in 1877, he moved to the Styrian capital Graz (''Gradec''), where he did his military service and from 1885 worked for several employers. Viktor Markelj (born 1958, Zgornja Bistrica) is a Slovenian structural engineer and bridge specialist. Career Markelj graduated from the University of Maribor - Faculty of Civil Engineering in 1982. He obtained a PhD degree in civil engineering at FGPA - Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Architecture in Maribor in 2016, under the joint supervision of Branko Bedenik and Zlatko Šavor. His doctoral dissertation focused on Innovations in incremental launching method of bridge construction. From 1981 he worked at Gradis Design Office where he participated in designing of several large bridges and viaducts constructed by Gradis. In 1990, he and Marjan Pipenbaher founded Ponting Bridges, a Slovenian studio for structural engineering, focusing mainly on bridge structures, with headquarters in Maribor.
