Public Works (film)
''Public Works'' (), also distributed under the title ''A Noble Intention'', is a 2015 Dutch historical drama directed by Joram Lürsen based on a script written by Frank Ketelaar based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Rosenboom. It was based on the book of the same name by Thomas Rosenboom about the troubled construction of the Victoria Hotel, Amsterdam, Victoria Hotel in Amsterdam. It was listed as one of eleven films that could be selected as the Dutch submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. The film won the Pearl Award at the Film by the Sea festival in the Netherlands in 2016. Joram Lürsen
Joram Lürsen (born 11 August 1963) is a Dutch film director, film and television director, as well as screenwriter and producer. Lürsen was born in Amstelveen. He graduated from the Netherlands Film and Television Academy in Amsterdam in 1990 with his film ''De Finales'' (English language, English translation: ''The Finals''). He directed the family film ''In Orange'' (2004), which received a Golden Film for 100,000 visitors and international awards at film festivals in Hamburg, Esfahan, Kristiansand, Los Angeles, California, Los Angeles, Poznań, and Rimouski, Quebec, Rimouski. He directed the romantic comedy film ''Alles is Liefde'' (2007), which received a Diamond Film for 1,000,000 visitors. Hoogeveen
Hoogeveen (; or '' 't Oveine'') is a municipality and a town in the Dutch province of Drenthe. Population centres Elim, Fluitenberg, Hoogeveen and Noordscheschut, which still have the canals which used to be throughout the town. Other villages of the town are Hollandscheveld, Nieuw Moscou, Nieuweroord, Nieuwlande, Pesse, Stuifzand and Tiendeveen. History Hoogeveen dates its history to 20 December 1625, when Roelof van Echten bought a large tract of peat land from farmers of the district with the plan to harvest its peat. One old map of the area called it ''Locus Deserta Atque ob Multos Paludes Invia'', a deserted and impenetrable place of many swamps. Hoogeveen itself was established in 1636 by Peter Joostens Warmont and Johan van der Meer. Film By The Sea
Film by the Sea is an annual film festival that takes place in Vlissingen, Netherlands, in September. Festival Film by the Sea was founded in 1999. The festival features both pre-premieres of major commercial films, and art house films that do not yet have a distributor in the Netherlands. A main focus of the festival is on films based on literature, which is connected to an annual festival competition. Film by the Sea takes place annually in the Cine City cinema in Vlissingen. The festival was attended by 43,300 people in 2016, and is the fourth-biggest film festival in the Netherlands. The festival has been led by artistic director Leo Hannewijk since 1999.
