Public Land State
In the United States, a public land state is a U.S. state in which all lands were originally public lands owned by the United States federal government, which later transferred them to private ownership – or to the ownership of state or local governments – through land grants. By contrast, a private land state (also called a non-public land state or a state land state) is a U.S. state in which the federal government is not the original land-owner. In public land states, the federal government owns a significant proportion of the state's public lands; in private land states, federal land holdings are generally more limited, comprising lands acquired through purchase, donation or eminent domain for such purposes as military bases, federal office buildings, national parks, etc, and public lands are more frequently under the ownership of state or local governments. In all modern states, a portion of land is held by central or local governments. This is called public land, state land, or Crown land (Commonwealth realms). The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is an agency within the United States Department of the Interior responsible for administering federal lands, U.S. federal lands. The Texas State Historical Association (TSHA) is an American nonprofit educational and research organization dedicated to documenting the history of Texas. It was founded in Austin, Texas, United States, on March 2, 1897. In November 2008, the TSHA moved its offices from Austin to the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. In 2015, the offices were relocated again to the University of Texas at Austin. United States General Land Office
The General Land Office (GLO) was an Independent agencies of the United States government, independent agency of the United States government responsible for Public domain (land), public domain lands in the United States. It was created in 1812 to take over functions previously conducted by the United States Department of the Treasury. A land grant is a gift of real estate—land or its use privileges—made by a government or other authority as an incentive, means of enabling works, or as a reward for services to an individual, especially in return for military service. Grants of land are also awarded to individuals and companies as incentives to develop unused land in relatively unpopulated countries; the process of awarding land grants are not limited to the countries named below.
