Pseudoplesiopinae
Pseudoplesiopinae is a subfamily of the Family (biology), family Pseudochromidae, the dottybacks, it consists of small species of coral-reef inhabiting fish which are distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific. Characteristics Workers have established that this subfamily is Monophyly, monophyletic. They have a pelvic fin which has a single spine and three or four unbranched soft rays, their heads are covered in scales, most of the rays in their dorsal fins are simple, they have teeth on the palatine bone; their pectoral fins have 17–19 rays and the lateral line has one anterior-pored scale. Genera The following Genus, genera are included in the subfamily Pseudoplesiopinae: * ''Amsichthys'' Anthony C. Gill, A.C. Gill & Alasdair J. Edwards, A.J. Edwards, 1999 * ''Chlidichthys'' J.L.B. Lubbockichthys
''Lubbockichthys'' is a genus of ray-finned fish from the Indo-Pacific region which belongs to the subfamily Pseudoplesiopinae, part of the family Pseudochromidae, the dottybacks. The species in this genus have small cycloid scales throughout their lives; some of their head bones have a weakly honeycombed surface; and the parietal bone encloses the rear section of the supratemporal laterosensory canal. The name of this genus honours the Cambridge University ichthyologist Ichthyology is the branch of zoology devoted to the study of fish, including bony fish (Osteichthyes), cartilaginous fish (Chondrichthyes), and jawless fish (Agnatha). According to FishBase, 35,800 species of fish had been described as of March 2 ..., Roger Lubbock (1951-1981) in recognition of his work on the taxonomy of the subfamily Pseudoplesiopinae. Species Three species are currently classified in the genus ''Lubbockichthys'': * '' Lubbockichthys multisquamatus'' ( G. R. Allen, 1987) (Fine-scaled dotty ...

Dottyback
The dottybacks are a family, Pseudochromidae, of fishes which were formerly classified in the order Perciformes or considered ''incertae sedis'' percomorphs, but are now considered basal blenniiforms. Around 152 species belong to this family. They are found in the tropical and subtropical Indo-Pacific, where most inhabit coral reefs. Many species are brightly coloured fish, often showing striking sexual dimorphism. They are generally small, mostly less than in length, and some less than . The largest by far, at up to , is '' Congrogadus subducens''.Lieske, E., and Myers, R. (1999). Coral Reef Fishes. 2nd edition. Princeton University Press. Dottybacks are distinguished from other families by the presence of three or less spines in the dorsal fin and an incomplete lateral line organ. Several of the brightly coloured members of the family are often seen in the marine aquarium trade, although some species are aggressively territorial.Goemans, B. (November 2008)Dottybacks—Choo ...

It is found in the Indo-Pacific region. Description The bugeye dottyback is a small, rarely seen species of dottyback which varies in colour from a uniform yellow through to brown. It has a pinkish snout and brown individuals have a yellow caudal fin. It goes to a maximum total length of in males. Distribution The bugeye dottyback is found in the Indo-Pacific region from western Thailand east through the Malay Archipelago to the Solomon Islands and Wallis Island, south to northern Australia and north to southern Japan. In Australia it is distributed from Scott Reef in Western Australia to the Capricorn Islands in Queensland. Biology The bugeye dottyback occurs in coastal reef slopes where it inhabits areas of algal growth among bo ...

Genus
Genus (; : genera ) is a taxonomic rank above species and below family (taxonomy), family as used in the biological classification of extant taxon, living and fossil organisms as well as Virus classification#ICTV classification, viruses. In binomial nomenclature, the genus name forms the first part of the binomial species name for each species within the genus. :E.g. ''Panthera leo'' (lion) and ''Panthera onca'' (jaguar) are two species within the genus ''Panthera''. ''Panthera'' is a genus within the family Felidae. The composition of a genus is determined by taxonomy (biology), taxonomists. The standards for genus classification are not strictly codified, so different authorities often produce different classifications for genera. There are some general practices used, however, including the idea that a newly defined genus should fulfill these three criteria to be descriptively useful: # monophyly – all descendants of an ancestral taxon are grouped together (i.e. Phylogeneti ...

He was famous for the ''Atlas Ichthyologique des Indes Orientales Néêrlandaises'', his monumental work on the fishes of East Asia published between 1862 and 1877. Lateral Line
The lateral line, also called the lateral line organ (LLO), is a system of sensory organs found in fish, used to detect movement, vibration, and pressure gradients in the surrounding water. The sensory ability is achieved via modified epithelial cells, known as hair cells, which respond to displacement caused by motion and transduce these signals into electrical impulses via excitatory synapses. Lateral lines play an important role in schooling behavior, predation, and orientation. Early in the evolution of fish, some of the sensory organs of the lateral line were modified to function as the electroreceptors called ampullae of Lorenzini. The lateral line system is ancient and basal to the vertebrate clade, as it is found in fishes that diverged over 400 million years ago. Function The lateral line system allows the detection of movement, vibration, and pressure gradients in the water surrounding an animal. It plays an essential role in orientation, predation, and fish ...
