Aemngvantom
''Aemngvantom'' is a genus of scorpions belonging to the family Pseudochactidae, first described in 2021 by L. Prendini, V. Ehrenthal, and S. Loria. Taxonomy and naming The genus name, ''Aemngvantom'', was coined to classify species within the Pseudochactidae family that are morphologically distinct from other genera in the family. The genus currently includes two species: '' Aemngvantom lao'' and '' Aemngvantom thamnongpaseuan'', both discovered in Laos. Morphology and identification Members of the genus ''Aemngvantom'' are small to medium-sized scorpions with features typical of the family Pseudochactidae, including pale coloration and highly specialized pedipalps. These adaptations may aid in survival in low-light environments such as caves. Distribution Species within the genus ''Aemngvantom'' are endemic to Laos Laos, officially the Lao People's Democratic Republic (LPDR), is the only landlocked country in Southeast Asia. It is bordered by Myanmar and China to ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

This genus is notable for its distinctive morphological features and its status as a "living fossil" due to its unique evolutionary lineage. Taxonomy and species The genus ''Pseudochactas'' comprises two recognized species: * '' Pseudochactas ovchinnikovi'' – Described by Gromov in 1998, this species was the first identified member of the genus. * '' Pseudochactas mischi'' – Described in 2012 from south-central Afghanistan, expanding the known range of the genus. ''Troglokhammouanus'' is a monotypic genus of scorpions in the family Pseudochactidae The Pseudochactidae are a scorpion family Family (from ) is a Social group, group of people related either by consanguinity (by recognized birth) or Affinity (law), affinity (by marriage or other relationship). It forms the basis for soci ..., containing the single species ''Troglokhammouanus steineri''. This genus was first described by Wilson R. Lourenço in 2007 based on specimens collected from the Tham Xe Bangfai cave in Khammouane Province, Laos. Taxonomy The genus ''Troglokhammouanus'' was established to classify the species ''T. steineri'', distinguished by specific morphological characteristics that set it apart from other genera within the Pseudochactidae family. Distribution and habitat ''Troglokhammouanus steineri'' is endemic to Laos, specifically found in the Tham Xe Bangfai cave system in Khammouane Province. Scorpion
Scorpions are predatory arachnids of the Order (biology), order Scorpiones. They have eight legs and are easily recognized by a pair of Chela (organ), grasping pincers and a narrow, segmented tail, often carried in a characteristic forward curve over the back and always ending with a stinger. The evolutionary history of scorpions goes back Silurian, 435 million years. They mainly live in deserts but have adapted to a wide range of environmental conditions, and can be found on all continents except Antarctica. There are over 2,500 described species, with 22 extant (living) families recognized to date. Their Taxonomy (biology), taxonomy is being revised to account for 21st-century genomic studies. Scorpions primarily prey on insects and other invertebrates, but some species hunt vertebrates. They use their pincers to restrain and kill prey, or to prevent their own predation. The Scorpion sting, venomous sting is used for offense and defense. During courtship, the male and female ... Family (biology)
Family (, : ) is one of the eight major hierarchical taxonomic ranks in Linnaean taxonomy. It is classified between order and genus. A family may be divided into subfamilies, which are intermediate ranks between the ranks of family and genus. The official family names are Latin in origin; however, popular names are often used: for example, walnut trees and hickory trees belong to the family Juglandaceae, but that family is commonly referred to as the "walnut family". The delineation of what constitutes a family—or whether a described family should be acknowledged—is established and decided upon by active taxonomists. There are not strict regulations for outlining or acknowledging a family, yet in the realm of plants, these classifications often rely on both the vegetative and reproductive characteristics of plant species. Taxonomists frequently hold varying perspectives on these descriptions, leading to a lack of widespread consensus within the scientific community ...
