The pygmy mulga snake (''Pseudechis weigeli''), also commonly known as the pygmy king brown snake, is a species of venomous snake in the black snake genus ''Pseudechis'' in the family Elapidae. The species is native to Australia. Geographic range In Australia, ''P. weigeli'' is endemic to the Kimberley ranges. Habitat The preferred natural habitats of ''P. weigeli'' are forest and savanna. Reproduction ''P. weigeli'' is ovoviviparous. Taxonomy ''P. weigeli'' was genetically confirmed as a distinct species in 2017. Richard Walter Wells is an Australian herpetologist. He is known for editing the ''Australian Journal of Herpetology'' in the 1980s, in which he and C. Ross Wellington wrote and published three papers without academic peer review that proposed significant changes to the taxonomy and nomenclature of Australian reptiles and amphibians. In the 2000s, Wells self-published herpetological research in the ''Australian Biodiversity Record''. The scientific names he proposed therein are the subject of a boycott begun in 2013 by some members of the herpetological community. Christopher Drummond Hay (born 28 August 1974) is a Scottish former professional footballer. He played as a striker for Celtic, Swindon Town, Huddersfield Town, St Johnstone and Stirling Albion. Hay began his professional career at Celtic in 1993, but only managed to make 26 league appearances in four years. He joined English club Swindon Town in 1997, and in just under a century of league appearances he scored 32 goals. Harold George "Hal" Cogger (born 4 May 1935) is an Australian herpetologist. He was curator of reptiles and amphibians at the Australian Museum from 1960 to 1975, and Deputy Director of the museum from 1976 to 1995. The species, which is native to Australia, was genetically confirmed as a distinct species in 2017. Taxonomy The eastern dwarf mulga snake was originally described in 1998 as ''Pailsus pailsei'' by Raymond Hoser. Wolfgang Wüster identified that its specific name should be spelt ''pailsi'' under taxonomic rules in 2001. However, according to the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (Article 32.5.1) the original spelling should still be used, even though it is an incorrect latinisation.
