Bienal de Quadrinhos de Curitiba is a Brazilian comic book festival held since 2011 in Curitiba. History In 2011, the event Gibicon nº 0 ("Gibi" is an informal way of calling comic books in Brazil) took place, with the subtitle "Curitiba's International Comics Convention", organized by Quadrinhofilia Produções Artísticas with Znort Ilustradores. They were invited by Curitiba's Cultural Foundation. There were several events, such as meetings, debates, lectures and exhibitions, held in different places in Curitiba ( Gibiteca de Curitiba, Museum of Photography, Memorial de Curitiba, Goethe-Institut, Alliance française, Instituto Cervantes, Sesc Paço da Liberdade and Jokers Pub), with 32 Brazilian guests and seven international guests: Hervé Bourhis, Fabio Civitelli, Lucio Filippucci, Jens Hardes and Salvador Sanz. Kim Jung Gi
Kim Jung Gi (legally Kim Jung Ki; ; 7 February 1975 – 3 October 2022) was a South Korean illustrator, cartoonist, and manhwa artist. He was famous for his large, highly detailed illustrations, often drawn only from memory. Biography Early life Kim was born in 1975 in Goyang, a suburb of Seoul. He was inspired to begin drawing after viewing an illustration from '' Dr. Slump'', a manga drawn by Akira Toriyama. In school, his teachers often chastised him for not paying attention, as he was busy doodling in his notes. At the age of 19, he pursued a fine arts education at Dong-Eui University, located in Busan: until he studied here he had not learned the mathematical principles of perspective, something he had previously done by intuition. Marcelo D'Salete
Marcelo D'Salete (born 1979) is a Brazilian comic book writer, illustrator and professor. He holds a master's degree in art history from the University of São Paulo. During his adolescence, he studied graphic design at Carlos de Campos College and worked as an illustrator for publishers. He premiered as a comic book artist in 2001, publishing in the magazines ''Quadreca'' and ''Front''. His first graphic novel,'' Noite Luz'', was published in 2008. In 2011, he published the comic book'' Encruzilhada''. His most acclaimed works deal with the history of resistance to slavery in Brazil from the perspective of the Afro-Brazilian peoples: ''Cumbe'', from 2014, and ''Angola Janga'' from 2017. Troféu HQ Mix
Troféu HQ Mix is a Brazilian comics award. The prize was created in 1989 by João Gualberto Costa (Gual) and José Alberto Lovetro (Jal), members of the Association of the Brazilian Cartoonists. The name refers to the television show about comics that Gual and Jal had in the 1980s: "HQ" is abbreviation of "História em Quadrinhos" ("Comics" in Brazilian Portuguese Brazilian Portuguese (; ; also known as pt-BR) is the set of Variety (linguistics), varieties of Portuguese language native to Brazil. Prêmio Angelo Agostini
Prêmio Angelo Agostini (Angelo Agostini Award), sometimes also called Troféu Angelo Agostini (Angelo Agostini Trophy), is the most traditional comics award in Brazil. It was created in 1985 by the Associação dos Quadrinhistas e Caricaturistas do Estado de São Paulo (AQC-ESP), which still organizes the event today. The award's name pays homage to Angelo Agostini, considered at the time the pioneer artist of Brazilian comics. The event also seeks to take place, whenever possible, on Dia do Quadrinho Nacional ("National Comics Day", in January 30), the same date in which, in 1869, the first episode of the Agostini's sequential art series ''As Aventuras de Nhô Quim ou Impressões de Uma Viagem à Corte'' was published.
