Prêmio Al Rio
Prêmio Al Rio (''Al Rio Award'') was a Brazilian award to honor Brazilian comic book artists with prominence in the national and international comics industry. The name was a tribute to the cartoonist of the same name. The laureate artists received trophies of revelation and of regional, national and international prominence. The award was associated with GeekExpo, then the main geek event in Ceará, whose first edition took place in 2015. Trophies for Al Rio winners were handed out during the event. The last edition of the award took place in 2018, when happened also the last edition of GeekExpo, which was "absorbed" by the Sana Fest event this year. Fortaleza
Fortaleza ( ; ; ) is the state capital of Ceará, located in Northeast Region, Brazil, Northeastern Brazil. It is Brazil's 4th largest city—Fortaleza surpassed Salvador, Bahia, Salvador in 2022 census with a population of slightly over 2.4 million—and 12th among cities with the highest gross domestic product. Álvaro Araújo Lourenço do Rio (19 May 1962 – 31 January 2012) – known professionally as Al Rio – was a Brazilian comic book artist, best known for his " good girl" illustration work, particularly on the American comic book series '' Gen13'' and '' DV8'', published by Wildstorm Comics. Early life Al Rio was born in Fortaleza, Ceará, in northeastern Brazil. Career Rio began his professional art career in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1990s, illustrating books for a local English school. After then working as animation director for the same company, Rio became an animator for The Walt Disney Company, working on such properties as the syndicated '' ''Aladdin'''' animated series. Ceará (, ) is one of the 26 states of Brazil, located in the Northeast Region, Brazil, northeastern part of the country, on the Atlantic Ocean, Atlantic coast. Adão Iturrusgarai
Adão Iturrusgarai (born February 18, 1965) is a Brazilian cartoonist and comics artist. Biography Born in Cachoeira do Sul into a family of Basque origin, Iturrusgarai published his first drawing when seventeen years old, at Jornal do Povo, his hometown newspaper. At eighteen, he moved to Porto Alegre, where he studied Marketing and Advertising at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul ( PUCRS ). He also completed a course in Fine Arts, but he didn't conclude it. In 1991, Iturrusgarai edited the magazine ''Dundum'' and soon after traveled to Paris. In France, he published in the magazines ' Chacal Puant' and ' Flag'. In 1993 he returned to Brazil, living in São Paulo. In 1994, he published the magazine "Big Bang Bang", which lasted only for four numbers. He was a writer for several television comedy shows, including TV Colosso and Casseta & Planeta, at TV Globo. Cris Peter
Cris Peter (June 15, 1983) is a Brazilian colorist. She works mainly in the American comics market for publishers like DC Comics and Marvel Comics. She was nominated for the Eisner Award for her colors in comic series '' Casanova''. She also did the colors of important Brazilian comics, as '' Astronauta – Magnetar'' (with Danilo Beyruth, published by Panini Comics) and ''Petals'' (with Gustavo Borges, published by Marsupial Editora). In 2013, she published the theoretical book ''O Uso das Cores'' (''The Use of Colors''), by Marsupial Editora. She won the Troféu HQ Mix Troféu HQ Mix is a Brazilian comics award. José Edilbenes Bezerra (born November 20, 1972), better known by his professional name Ed Benes, is a Brazilian comic book artist, known for his work for DC Comics, on such titles as ''Birds of Prey (comics), Birds of Prey'', ''Supergirl (comic book), Supergirl'', ''Superman'', and ''Justice League, Justice League of America''. Early life José Edilbenes Bezerra was born November 20, 1972, in Alto Santo, a small town in the Brazilian state of Ceará, in the northeast region of the country. He has lived in Limoeiro do Norte, a medium town also in Ceará state, since he was 14 years old. He began drawing on his own in 1989, referencing the artwork from his brother's comic books. Fabio Coala is a Brazilian comics artist. After five years of working as a firefighter, he created the website ''Mentirinhas'' (''"Little Lies"'') in which he publishes, starting in 2010, webcomics with different characters. One of the main characters is "O Monstro" ("The Monster"), a toy monster that helps children with problems by becoming a real monster for them.
