Providence Oatlhotse is a Botswana chess player. He is the highest-rated player of his country. Chess career Oatlhotse has won the Botswana Chess Championship several times; in 2004, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2015, and 2018. In 2012, Oatlhotse got his IM title after winning the African Individual Chess Championships. In July 2015, Oatlhotse won the Millionaire Chess Satellite tournament ahead of Chitumbo Mwali and Johannes Mabusela. In July 2019, he won the 2019 Gaborone International Open Chess Championship. Serowe
Serowe (population approximately 60,000) is an urban village in Botswana's Botswana Central District, Central District. A trade and commercial centre, it is Botswana's third largest village. Serowe has played an important role in Botswana's history, as capital for the Bamangwato people in the early 20th century and as birthplace of several of Botswana's presidents. More recently it has undergone significant development as the town and as Botswana continues to grow. Chitumbo Mwali (born 1986) is a Zambian chess player. He was awarded the tile of International Master in 2007. Johannes Manyedi Mabusela (born 4 June 1984) is a South African chess player. He was awarded the title International Master by FIDE. He won the African Junior Chess Championship in 2002. Mabusela tied for 1st–4th with Rodwell Makoto, Ahmed Adly and Daniel Cawdery in the 2012 South African Open, finishing second on tiebreak, the highest finishing South African player. He again finished as the best South African finisher in 2014. In 2019, Mabusela was the outright winner of the South African Open. The Chess World Cup 2023 was a 206-player single-elimination chess tournament that took place in Baku, Azerbaijan from 30 July to 24 August 2023. It was the 10th edition of the Chess World Cup. The winner, runner-up and third-place finisher of the tournament (Magnus Carlsen, R Praggnanandhaa and Fabiano Caruana) earned the right to the play in the 2024 Candidates Tournament. In January 2024, Carlsen withdrew from the Candidates tournament, with the fourth-place finisher from the World Cup ( Nijat Abasov) qualifying in his place.
