Propagandhi
Propagandhi is a Canadian punk rock band formed in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba in 1986 by guitarist Chris Hannah and drummer Jord Samolesky. The band is currently located in Winnipeg, Manitoba and completed by bassist Todd Kowalski and guitarist Sulynn Hago. While their earlier work was aligned with the punk rock and skate punk tradition, in later years Propagandhi records have moved towards a heavier and more technical heavy metal-influenced sound. Both in their lyrics and hands-on activism, the band's members champion various left wing and anarchist causes and veganism, and have taken a vocal stance against human rights violations, sexism, racism, nationalism, homophobia, imperialism, capitalism and organized religion. Todd Kowalski
Todd "The Rod" Kowalski (born May 27, 1973) is a Canadian bassist and singer, currently a member of hardcore punk band Propagandhi. Along with his band, he lives a vegan lifestyle and supports animal rights. Career In the early 1990s, Kowalski was the frontman of I Spy, a hardcore punk band from Regina, originally called Klump. He and the band moved to Winnipeg in 1994. They recorded a split CD/10" with Propagandhi. I Spy played together until the summer of 1996, when they decided to call it quits. In 1996 Kowalski joined a band called Swallowing Shit who released a 7" record and an Anthology Cd. Kowalski joined Propagandhi in 1997 and also played bass for J Church on their 1997 Japanese tour. In 1998, G7 Welcoming Committee Records released an I Spy anthology album called ''Perversity is Spreading... It's About Time''. G7 Welcoming Committee Records was a Canadian independent record label based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The label mostly released material by artists and speakers with a radical left-wing point of view. David Guillas
David "Space Beaver" Guillas (born February 27, 1979) is a Canadian guitarist, formerly of Giant Sons Rough Music, and hardcore punk band Propagandhi. He left Propagandhi to pursue a career as a teacher. Career In early April 2002, Guillas played guitar for Giant Sons, a roots rock turned instrumental band in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The band broke up in August 2003, and ex-members of Giant Sons and Standstill formed a new band called Rough Music in February or March 2004. In August 2006 he became a member of Winnipeg hardcore punk outfit Propagandhi, who are still active on the Winnipeg music scene. Guillas left Propagandhi in 2015 in favor of his teaching career, however it was originally intended that he would still perform on studio recordings. Fat Wreck Chords (pronounced "Fat Records") is a San Francisco, California-based independent record label, focused on punk rock. It was started by NOFX lead singer Michael Burkett (better known as Fat Mike) in 1990. Portage la Prairie () is a small city in the Central Plains Region of Manitoba, Canada. As of 2016, the population was 13,304 and the land area of the city was . Portage la Prairie is approximately west of Winnipeg, along the Trans-Canada Highway (exactly halfway between the provincial boundaries of Saskatchewan and Ontario). Epitaph Records is an American independent record label owned by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, most acts signed to the label were punk and pop punk acts, while there are many post-hardcore and emo bands signed to the label as well. Recess Records
Recess Records is an independent record label founded in 1988. Label founder Todd Congelliere (frontman for F.Y.P and Toys That Kill) initially made 100 cassettes of F.Y.P's songs and sold them at skateboard contests. Two years later, Congelliere released a vinyl record, F.Y.P's ''Extra Credit'', an 11-song 7-inch record, and the label took off from there. In between touring the U.S., Europe, and Japan, Congelliere began releasing records for fellow punk rock and DIY bands, eventually having a roster of close to 20 artists on his label. Pinhead Gunpowder, fronted by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, announced in April 2008 that a new 7" single from the band would be released on Recess Records in late May 2008. Grand Hotel Van Cleef
Grand Hotel van Cleef is an independent record label headquartered in Hamburg, Germany. Label history Grand Hotel van Cleef was founded in September 2002 by the musicians Thees Uhlmann, Marcus Wiebusch and Reimer Bustorff. The newly formed band of Bustorff an Wiebusch '' Kettcar'' had recently recorded their first album, ''Du und wie viel von deinen Freunden'', (engl.: You and how many of your friends) but they found no label to release it. In addition, it was clear that Uhlmann's band Tomte would release their third album ''Hinter all diesen Fenstern (engl.: Behind all these windows)''. Veganism
Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal product—particularly in diet—and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. An individual who follows the diet or philosophy is known as a vegan. Distinctions may be made between several categories of veganism. Racism
