Prokash Karmakar
Prokash Karmakar (1933 – 24 February 2014) was a preeminent Indian artist from Kolkata, West Bengal. His work is in the permanent collection of a number of museums and galleries throughout India, including the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and he is the recipient of numerous awards. Karmakar is best known for his landscapes and nudes, which are generally painted in vibrant colors with bold lines and intricate textures. Academy Of Fine Arts, Kolkata
The Academy of Fine Arts, in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) is one of the oldest fine arts societies in India. The galleries of the Academy provide a whopping 6,300 square feet of space and has an auditorium, a conference centre, and several important and priceless collections of paintings, textiles, etc. History The academy was formally established in 1933 by Lady Ranu Mukherjee. It was initially located in a room loaned by the Indian Museum, and the annual exhibitions used to take place in the adjoining verandah. In the 1950s, thanks to the efforts of Lady Ranu Mookerjee and patronage by Bidhan Chandra Roy, Chief Minister of West Bengal, as well as Jawaharlal Nehru, the Prime Minister of India, the academy was shifted to a much larger space in the Cathedral Road. Prahlad Karmakar
Prahlad Karmakar (Bengali: প্রহ্লাদ কর্মকার) (1900-1946) was an Indian painter of the 20th century. He was born in the year 1900 in the village of Bikrampur in the then undivided Bengal. In 1925 he was the first artist to set up a studio in Calcutta with facilities for the study of 'nude' art. His paintings are in the collections of the Government College of Art and Craft, the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, the Department of Information under the Government of West Bengal, the Indian Museum in Kolkata and the Delhi Art Gallery. Karmakar's works are also within the list of the individual collections of Lady Wellington, Dr. Bhabani Charan Law family of Kolkata, Lord Lytton and the Pramatha Chaudhury. The National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) is the premier art gallery under Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The main museum at Jaipur House in New Delhi was established on 29 March 1954 by the Government of India, with subsequent branches at Mumbai and Bangalore.
