Projected National Share (PNS) is a statistic used in British politics. It refers to the translation of Local elections in the UK, local election results to reflect national party support in a future General elections in the uk, general election. PNS shows which party has won a local election. The numbers give an impression of how the List of political parties in the United Kingdom, political parties are faring if the entire country cast a local ballot. It can be calculated in different ways. History BBC News has calculated PNS since 1982. They use key wards which are reflective of the country as a whole in order to calculate party share. Two academics at the University of Plymouth, Colin Rallings and Michael Thrasher, calculate National Equivalent share (NEV) using a different approach. Psephology (; from Greek ) is the study of elections and voting. Psephology attempts to both forecast and explain election results. The term is more common in Britain and in those English-speaking communities that rely heavily on the British standard of the language. The 2025 United Kingdom local elections were held on 1 May 2025 for 1,641 council seats across 24 local authorities. The 2024 United Kingdom local elections took place on 2 May 2024 to choose 2,658 councillors on 107 councils in England, 11 directly elected mayors in England, the 25 members of the London Assembly, and 37 police and crime commissioners in England and Wales. The 2024 Blackpool South parliamentary by-election was held on the same day. These local elections were the last set of routine elections before the general election. Reform UK is a right-wing populist political party in the United Kingdom. Nigel Farage has been Leader of Reform UK and Richard Tice deputy leader since 2024.
