Mutz Greenbaum
Mutz Greenbaum (3 February 1896 – 5 July 1968), sometimes credited as Max Greene or Max Greenbaum, was a German film cinematographer. He was the son of the pioneering film producer Jules Greenbaum who had founded Deutsche Bioscope. He began as a cameraman in 1915 working on German silent movies, especially in association with directors Urban Gad, Max Mack, and Franz Hofer. Most of the time he worked for his father's company Greenbaum-Film GmbH in Berlin, even directing some detective films around 1920. Fantômas Films
Fantômas () is a fictional character created by French writers Marcel Allain (1885–1969) and Pierre Souvestre (1874–1914). One of the most popular characters in the history of French crime fiction, Fantômas was created in 1911 and appeared in a total of 32 volumes written by the two collaborators, then a subsequent 11 volumes written by Allain alone after Souvestre's death. The character was also the basis of various film, television, and comic book adaptations. In the history of crime fiction, he represents a transition from Gothic novel villains of the 19th century to modern-day serial killers and supervillains. Rolf Loer (born Lawrence F. Koehler; 19 January 1892 – 12 October 1964) was an American film actor of the silent era whose career was most prominent in German cinema. He played the character of Phantomas in a series of films, replacing Erich Kaiser-Titz who had previously played the role. Loer was also a violinist who, later in his career, performed with the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra. Origins He was born January 19, 1892, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as Lawrence F. Koehler to German immigrant parents Friedrich Ernst Georg Koehler, a musician and conductor, and the former Magdalena Obert. His brother was the composer C. Franz Koehler. Showing promise in the violin, his father sent him to Germany to study at the Klindworth-Scharwenka Conservatory under the guidance of Arrigio Serato in 1909. Jules Greenbaum (5 January 1867 – 1 November 1924) was a German pioneering film producer. He founded the production companies Deutsche Bioscope, Deutsche Vitascope and Greenbaum-Film and was a dominant figure in Cinema of Germany, German cinema in the years before the First World War. He is also known for his early experiments with sound films around twenty years before the success of ''The Jazz Singer'' made them a more established feature of cinema. Early career and Deutsche Bioscope Greenbaum was born in Berlin in 1867 as Julius Grünbaum. He married Emma Karstein in c1887 and moved to Chicago in the United States, where his first son Georg was born 1 November 1889. He worked in the textile industry. On his return to Berlin in 1895 aged around 42, Greenbaum moved into the newly established film business and founded Deutsche Bioscope () in 1899.
