Professional Triathletes Organisation
The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) is an organisation that represents Drafting (aerodynamics), non-drafting professional triathlon, triathletes. Its mission is to professionalise and promote the sport of triathlon through itT100 Triathlon World Tourracing series. The PTO is a hybrid of a not-for-profit organisation and commercial endeavour. The commercial enterprises of the PTO – including PTO events – are operated under a commercial entity, with the triathletes of PTO retaining 50% ownership and PTO investors retaining 50% ownership. In 2023 the PTO signed an agreement with the governing body of the sport, World Triathlon, under which PTO will organise a World Championship Tour of Long Distance Triathlon, a series which World Triathlon will, from 2024, recognise as its 'official' world championship for non-drafting long distance triathlon, mirroring its own Olympic-distance World Triathlon Championship Series. Drafting (aerodynamics)
Drafting or slipstreaming is an aerodynamic technique where two moving objects are aligning in a close group to exploit the lead object's slipstream and thus reduce the overall effect of drag. Especially when high speeds are involved, as in motor racing and cycling, drafting can significantly reduce the paceline's average energy expenditure and can even slightly reduce the energy expenditure of the lead vehicle. Drafting in sport Drafting is used to reduce wind resistance and is seen most commonly in bicycle racing, motorcycle racing, car racing, and speedskating, though drafting is occasionally used even in cross-country skiing, downhill skateboarding, and running. Timothy O'Donnell (triathlete)
Timothy O'Donnell (born October 1, 1980) is an American long-distance triathlete. He won the 2009 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships, placed third at the 2015 Ironman World Championship, and was second at the 2019 Ironman World Championship. Career O'Donnell was originally a swimmer who began competing in triathlon on the advice of his brother while at the United States Naval Academy. In 2013, O'Donnell won Ironman Brazil with a time 8:01:32. He was 5th at the 2013 Ironman World Championship and was the first American to cross the line. In 2014 O'Donnell announced that he had begun working with Mark Allen in preparation for the 2014 Ironman World Championship. SailGP
The Rolex SailGP Championship is an international sailing (sport), sailing competition that features high-performance F50 (catamaran), F50 Sailing hydrofoil, foiling catamarans, where teams compete across a season of multiple grands prix (GP) around the world. The reigning champion is Diego Botín's Spain SailGP Team, which won the 2023–24 SailGP championship. History The competition was started in 2018 by Larry Ellison (co-founder of Oracle Corporation, Oracle) and champion yachtsman Russell Coutts. Formula E
Formula E, officially the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, is an open-wheel single-seater motorsport championship for electric cars. The racing series is the highest class of competition for electrically powered single-seater racing cars. The inaugural championship race was held in Beijing in September 2014. Since 2020, the series has had FIA world championship status. The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship season consists of a series of races, each known as an ePrix. These take place in multiple countries and continents around the world, mostly on street circuits created specifically for Formula E on closed public roads in the centre of major cities, with a small number on purpose-built circuits such as Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City. Alistair Edward Brownlee (born 23 April 1988) is an English former triathlete. He is the only athlete to hold two Olympic titles in the individual triathlon event, winning gold medals in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games. Christine Ann Wellington (born 18 February 1977) is an English former professional triathlete and four-time Ironman Triathlon World Champion. Ironman Triathlon
An Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), consisting of a swim, a bicycle ride and a marathon run completed in that order, a total of . It is widely considered one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world. Most Ironman events have a time limit of 16 or 17 hours to complete the race, course dependent, with the race typically starting at 7:00 am. The mandatory cutoff time to complete the swim is 2 hours 20 minutes.
