''Produce 101 Japan'' () is a 2019 Japanese reality competition show, co-produced by Yoshimoto Kogyo and CJ E&M. It is a spin-off of the South Korean '' Produce 101'' franchise. The show follows 101 contestants with the intention of producing a permanent eleven-member boy group. It premiered on September 25, 2019, on TBS. The first episode was rerun on the streaming platform GyaO! the following day, which also broadcast the remainder of the show every Thursday at 21:00 JST ( GMT+9). The finale was aired on December 11, 2019, on TBS at 19:00 JST (GMT+9). The final top eleven contestants debuted as the permanent boy group JO1. Ninety-nine (owarai)
, or is a Japanese comic duo from Osaka working for the entertainment conglomerate Yoshimoto Kogyo. The duo ( kombi), consisting of Takashi Okamura as boke (stooge) and Hiroyuki Yabe as tsukkomi (straightman), formed in 1990. The pair met in high school, where they were both involved in the soccer club. Okamura had been receiving guidance from Yabe's brother Yoshiyuki Yabe and throughout their high school life they had a senpai and kōhai relationship. As he was Yoshiyuki's younger brother, his soccer club peers referred to him as "Yabe Juni r. Upon graduating from high school, Okamura entered Ritsumeikan University and studied there for one year. The Mnet vote manipulation investigation was a South Korean entertainment scandal involving electoral fraud in several reality competition series produced and broadcast by the television channel Mnet. The incident primarily involves the ''Produce 101'' series and '' Idol School'', which were intended to create K-pop groups with members selected by audience vote. In July 2019, during the final episode of the ''Produce 101'' series' fourth season, ''Produce X 101'', several viewers suspected that the total votes were manipulated after noticing numerical patterns.
