Private Angelo (film)
''Private Angelo'' is a 1949 British comedy war film directed by Michael Anderson and Peter Ustinov and starring Ustinov, Godfrey Tearle, María Denis and Marjorie Rhodes. It depicts the misadventures of a soldier in the Italian Army during the Second World War. It was adapted from the 1946 novel ''Private Angelo'' by Eric Linklater. The film's costumes were designed by Ustinov's mother Nadia Benois. A number of scenes were filmed in the Italian village of Trequanda in the Province of Siena. It also featured music played by the Società Filarmonica di Trequanda. Interiors were shot at Welwyn Studios, with sets designed by the art director John Howell (art director), John Howell. Michael Anderson (director)
Michael Joseph Anderson Sr (30 January 1920 – 25 April 2018) was an English film and television director. His career spanned nearly 50 years across three countries, working at various times in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada. His most critically and commercially successful works include the World War II film '' The Dam Busters'' (1955), the dystopian sci-fi film '' Logan's Run'' (1976), and the comedy adventure epic '' Around the World in 80 Days'' (1956), which won the 1957 Academy Award for Best Picture. Anderson received nominations for the Best Director Oscar and the Golden Globe for Best Director for ''Around the World in 80 Days''. John Harvey (actor)
John Harvey (27 September 1911 – 19 July 1982) was an English actor. He appeared in 52 films, two television films and made 70 television guest appearances between 1948 and 1979. Born in London, England, he began his acting career on the stage in the 1930s as one of the Harry Hanson's Court Players at the Peterborough Repertory. While there, he met the actress Diana King. Harvey and King were married, remaining together for more than forty years, until his death. During the Second World War, he was commissioned in the Royal Air Force. Post-war, he performed at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane, London, for some four years, during the West End runs of Rodgers and Hammerstein's '' South Pacific'' and ''The King and I''. Harvey's film debut was in the role as Eddie in the British crime drama ''A Gunman Has Escaped'' (1948), in which he was the leading star. Wilfred William Dennis Shine (20 October 1911 – 24 July 1997) was a British theatre, film and television actor. Harry Locke
Harry Locke (10 December 1913 – 7 September 1987) was an English character actor. He was born and died in London. He married Joan Cowderoy in 1943 and Cordelia Sewell in 1952. He was a good friend of the poet Dylan Thomas. Their friendship in London and South Leigh, Oxfordshire, has been described by Locke in a 1970s interview with the radio journalist Colin Edwards. Moyna Macgill (born Charlotte Lillian McIldowie; 10 December 1895 – 25 November 1975) was a Scots-Irish actress from Belfast and the mother of actress Angela Lansbury and producers Edgar and Bruce Lansbury.
