Priti Sengupta
Priti Sengupta ( gu, પ્રીતિ સેનગુપ્તા) is a Gujarati poet and writer from Gujarat, India. She received Kumar Suvarna Chandrak in 2006. She has written several travelogues. Biography Sengupta was born on 17 May 1944 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat to Ramnalal and Kantagauri. She completed her S.S.C. from Sheth Chimanlal Nagindas Vidyalaya, Ahmedabad in 1961. She completed Bachelor of Arts in 1965 from Gujarat College, Ahmedabad and Master of Arts in 1967 from School of Languages, Gujarat University with English literature. She started her career as a lecturer of English literature at H. K. Arts College. She moved to New York, US where she became acquainted with Chandan Sengupta and married him. Works She wrote under pseudonyms 'Ashakya' and 'Namumakin'. ''Gujarati Vishwakosh'' ( gu, ગુજરાતી વિશ્વકોશ, ) is an encyclopedia in Gujarati, one of the official languages of India, published by Gujarat Vishwakosh Trust, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It can be considered the first full encyclopedia in the Gujarati language. Under the guidance of Dhirubhai Thaker, the work started in 1985 and ended in 2009 consisting of 25 volumes with 23,090 articles. History After the foundation of Gujarat state in 1960 on the linguistic basis, there was a need for literature available to the Gujarati speaking public. After years of efforts by Dhirubhai Thaker, the Gujarat Vishwakosh Trust was set up in December 1985 comprising many scholars and people of various disciplines. Gujarati Sahitya Parishad
Gujarati Sahitya Parishad () is a literary organisation for the promotion of Gujarati literature located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It was founded by Ranjitram Mehta with the aim of creating literature appealing to all classes of society and cultivating a literary sense among the people. Many prominent people including Mahatma Gandhi and Kanaiyalal Munshi have presided over the organisation. Its headquarters, located on Ashram Road, is known as Govardhan Bhavan. It has a conference hall and library. ''Parab'' is the monthly magazine of the Gujarati Sahitya Parishad and is published on the 10th of every month.
