Priolo (horse)
Priolo (foaled March 17, 1987 in the United States) was a French Thoroughbred racehorse. He was bred and raced by Chryss Goulandris' Ecurie Skymarc Farm. In 1990 he won two Group One races and ran second to Saumarez in the Grand Prix de Paris. Sent to Belmont Park in the United States, he was third behind winner Royal Academy and runner-up, Itsallgreektome in the 1990 Breeders' Cup Mile. In 1991, Priolo won his third Group One event, capturing the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp. Retired from racing, in December 1991, Priolo was sent to stand at stud in Ireland. Sovereign Dancer
Sovereign Dancer (January 24, 1975 – December 25, 1993) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse best known as a sire of two American Classic Race winners. Background Bred by Ogden Mills Phipps, he was a son of the most important sire of the 20th Century, Northern Dancer and from the mare Bold Princess, a daughter of the eight-time Leading sire in North America, Bold Ruler. Racing career At age four Sovereign Dancer was sold to Alec Head's Haras du Quesnay near Deauville in the Lower Normandy region of France where he compiled a record of two wins, three seconds, and a third in ten starts on grass for trainer Criquette Head-Maarek. Sovereign Dancer won his debut in France in April 1979 at Maisons-Laffitte Racecourse and won in his fourth start at the Evry Racecourse. Belmont Park
Belmont Park is a thoroughbred racing, thoroughbred horse racetrack in Elmont, New York, just east of New York City limits best known for hosting the Belmont Stakes, the final leg of the American Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing (United States), Triple Crown. It was opened on May 4, 1905, and is one of the most well known racetracks in the United States. The original structure was demolished in 1963, and a second facility opened in 1968. The second structure was demolished in 2023, and a third version of Belmont Park is expected to open in 2026. Operated by the New York Racing Association (NYRA), Belmont Park is typically open for racing from late April through mid-July (known as the Spring meet), and again from mid-September through late October (the Fall meet). The Prix Minerve is a Group 3 flat horse race in France open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run at Deauville over a distance of 2,500 metres (about 1 mile and 4½ furlongs), and it is scheduled to take place each year in August. History The event is named after Minerva, the Roman goddess of crafts and wisdom. It was established in 1925, and it was originally called the Prix ''de'' Minerve. It was initially staged at Le Tremblay with a distance of 2,000 metres. The race was abandoned in 1940, and for a period thereafter it was contested over 2,100 metres at Maisons-Laffitte (1941–43) and Auteuil (1944). The Prix Saint-Alary is a Group 2 flat horse race in France open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run at Longchamp in Paris over a distance of 2,000 metres (about 1 miles), and takes place each year in May. History The event is named after Evremond de Saint-Alary (1868–1941), a successful racehorse owner and breeder. It was established in 1960, and was originally contested on Longchamp's middle course (''moyenne piste''). It was switched to the main course (''grande piste'') in 1987. The Prix Saint-Alary serves as a trial for the following month's Prix de Diane. Thirteen fillies have won both races. The first was La Sega in 1962, and the most recent was Gezora in 2025. Priory Belle
Priory Belle (10 April 1993 – after 2005) was an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. She showed her best form as a two-year-old in 1995 when she won two of her three races including the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes. She failed to win in three starts in 1996 and was retired to become a broodmare. She had some success as a dam of winners, with the last of her foals being born in 2005. Background Priory Belle was a chestnut mare bred in Ireland by Tom Lacy. During her racing career he was trained by Jim Bolger and raced in the colours of the County Kilkenny-based Ballylinch Stud. She was ridden in all but one of her races by Kevin Manning. She was from the first crop of foals sired by Priolo, a top-class miler who won the Prix Jean Prat, Prix Jacques Le Marois and Prix du Moulin. Sendawar (horse)
Sendawar (foaled 15 April 1996) was an Irish-bred, French-trained racehorse, who is an active National Hunt Stallion. He was ridden by Gérald Mossé in all his starts. Background Sendawar, a dark bay or brown horse, was bred at the Aga Khan Studs in Ireland. He was sired by Priolo who himself won three Group 1 races in France and sired only one other Group 1 winner, namely Mirio. His dam was Sendana, a Darshaan mare, who produced only one other notable progeny, namely Sendoro, who was placed in three Group races. A stud animal is a registered animal retained for breeding. The terms for the male of a given animal species (stallion (horse), stallion, bull, rooster, etc.) usually imply that the animal is intact—that is, not Castration, castrated—and therefore capable of siring offspring. A specialized vocabulary exists for de-sexed animals (gelding, Cattle#Terminology, steer, etc.) and those animals used in grading up to a purebred status. Stud females are generally used to breed further stud animals, but stud males may be used in crossbreeding programs. Both sexes of stud animals are regularly used in artificial breeding programs. Prix Du Moulin De Longchamp
The Prix du Moulin de Longchamp is a Group 1 flat horse race in France open to horses aged three years or older. It is run at Longchamp over a distance of 1,600 metres (about 1 mile), and it is scheduled to take place each year in September. History The event is named after the Moulin de Longchamp, a windmill located within the grounds of the racecourse. The mill was originally part of an abbey, and its foundation stone was laid by Saint Louis in 1256. It was destroyed during the French Revolution, but reconstructed when the racecourse was built in 1856. The Prix du Moulin de Longchamp was one of two major races introduced to celebrate Longchamp's centenary in 1957.
